Post Your Game Cam Pics Here!!!

No dogs for us either. A dog would probably outlive us too. I have a .22 and a 410 with critical defense slugs and other ammo. Most of the people that live in our area have guns and every so often we hear them shooting. Not long ago a woman from Virginia bought 10 acres behind us. She had a German Schnauzer. Not long ago she let it out to do it's business one night and it ventured too far from her house and some coyotes seriously injured it and it died. She was concerned about hearing the gunfire around sometimes and we told he to be grateful she hears it and that we have guns and maybe she should invest in one and learn how to shoot it. Hubby gave her a can of pepper spray, the same as the police use, It actually sprays pretty far and she was happy with that for now. I mentioned to her about a game camera.

while the .410 will work great with the right load, the .22 (i assume you're referring to .22LR?) is not thenbest defensive round. it's better than nothing, but don't count on it to save your life.

every sane adult in america should be armed to the teeth all the time, and they should practice weekly, if not daily.

an armed society is a polite society. period.

there's a reason mass shootings only happen in gun-free zones.

sure, 20 ga will work fine, with the right load.

slugs are not the best for home defense for a couple of reasons, but they aren't the worst.

before we get into the load you should use, what is your setup like? are you out in the country with space between neighbors?
who else is in the house? kids, parents, etc?

those questions will make sense in a bit...

Easy there tiger, let's not turn this into a munitions thread...this one is about shooting pics of animals ;)

We are in the country on a hill. The closest neighbor is across from the end of my 200' driveway. The next closest is below me, as in I can see the roof of his house so I'm above him. Otherwise, it's woods all around, except for my pasture lot.
I have other ammo, of course, of all different grains for the 20 gauge. just that the slug would put a decent hole in someone; and other firearms are here, but would rather not post all about it here. Right now, I'm expecting someone I don't know to get a chick. He's late and my DH had to leave to go to his brother who is in hospice care. So, I have a self defense weapon strategically placed, just in case it's needed. No kids, just us, the chickens and the cat.

ETA:
I agree with Anne, though, @aart, this is a game camera thread and we're really getting a bit off course. I have not caught anything on the camera since the last stuff, but I did see a doe just now on the outskirts of the meadow, keeping close to the trees while talking to my SIL on the phone standing in front of the barn. The guy who came was perfectly nice, just very late. No need for self defense this time!

I didn't really ask any questions. You asked me some, which I answered, so it's all good. Thanks for the recommendations. We can get the thread back on track now for the other folks.

There were no pics on the pasture cam today. I haven't checked the driveway cam because I have to remove the SD card and bring it into the house to check. The pasture cam has a review screen, which saves me a lot of hoofing back to the house to find nothing on it.

This is a Game Camera thread and some people such as my sister that use them as security cameras. I use my cameras for seeing what predators are coming onto my property. Most often it is coyote. Haven't seen one though in several days.Yesterday there were 2 Great Pyrenees sniffing around. No idea where they came from. I did chase them off and they went in a direction where there are no homes except one. We live in a remote area. Everyone around us has several acres so since we live on a hill (Hilltop Farm) we can see one house over on the next hill as a long time ago the land was cleared for pasture. There are woods behind us, the direction the Great Pyrenees went, and there is the house that was built a few months ago on the 10 acres behind us, but I can't see the house from ours. The woman lives alone and has a new German Schnauzer puppy since coyotes killed her other one recently. She is concerned about trespassers. She shares our road because it is the only way to get back to her property.

Pyrs tend to roam a great deal unless they are fenced. I would be irritated by any big dog loose on my property. Just because they are LGDs doesn't mean they will not kill your livestock because they still have to be trained. I am using the driveway game cam as a security camera at the moment. I did buy a security cam recently but it was never working right and I had to return it.

Will a 20 gauge with slugs do?

my bad, i must have misunderstood.
:)

i was just going to share with you some insight into the different types of loads and the advantages and drawbacks of each depending on your surroundings (hence my questions to you) so you could make an educated and informed decision when it comes to your safety/self-defense.

there's quite a bit to consider, but..

That was a rhetorical question, guess I didn't make that clear. I was just saying we had what we needed. My husband was in the Air Force and is familiar with many firearms.
