The coyote was back last night out near the outer coops. Something tested the electric wires last night. I was sound asleep and it woke me when I heard the cry.

If I ever have chickens in a smaller pen, I am going to electrify it, after what I've seen of how successful yours is.

Mine isn't pretty but works. I also have good heavy duty netting covering all of the pens and concrete under the gates, all due to losses from predators in the past. I told DH awhile back when I wasn't seeing much on the cameras but come spring that I would probably see more activity as many predators are having their young so would be out hunting more.

The little Apeman caught about 300 pictures since last download, mostly deer, possum and rabbit, plus my chickens in both breeding flocks love to hang out there, but so does that fox. Trying to figure if it's a red or a gray fox, can't see if the tail has a white tip on it (red fox).

I'm curious too. It looks like a red fox. A gray fox if I recall correctly usually has a black stripe along the top of it's back and tail. It's so hard to tell with night pictures.

I just looked them up and this is what I found. Grey foxes have a black tipped tail and a black stripe down its back. They have a more cat-like face. Red foxes have black on their legs, black-tipped ears (seen on the backsides), a white-tipped tail and a more dog-like face. I couldn't tell on tail either but the black legs are there. I had some cameras go off last night but nothing in the pictures. Maybe a bug set them off.

You're right, the black legs are definitely noteworthy. Unless we get a better picture in more light, might be difficult to see a white tail tip. Thanks!

Last night this cat came back. I have been seeing it even around the coops. Not sure if it has tested the electric wires yet. Something did a week or so ago. It woke me out of a sound sleep.

At least that is not much threat to your chickens. My own just ignore my cat, though they were really wary of him when he showed up over 6 years ago. He does like to jump at the bantams and make them scatter, but he doesn't try to catch anything. Chicks are probably the only thing that's really in much danger from a cat. I don't like stray toms spraying around here. Mine is neutered and doesn't do that but he sure notices when the strangers do.
