"Postcard from your duck" by Jennifer Gordon-Very sad...

Showed this to my feed store when i went in a little bit ago. They agreed to post it on the wall for everyone to read and said if they get ducks in they will post it on the duck pen.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don't have much regard for the well being of the animal. I've known some like this. Knew one couple that went through many dogs and cats in about a 6-8 year period. They had 6 kids between diapers and pre-teen, and were NOT very good at keeping the kids under control. They would get an animal, and when it bit out of fear or whatever, because the kids were wailing on it one time too many, off it went to be put down. Sad. I also know a person who keeps getting pet rabbits for a 3 year old, and lets them "live in the back yard, its fenced." Gee, golly if they don't disappear after a few weeks, hawk or owl snack. Duh!

I think this needs to be the start of a pattern where everyone takes this to there feed store or where ever ducks are sold and ask if this can be posted. The worst they can say is no. Who knows how many ducks lives will be saved because of this.

While most of us DO love our ducks, many people don't research them before getting them.
In my naive view of the world, if this kind of thing happens once, it's one time too many.
It's just a reminder for people to never "impulse buy" anything with a heartbeat.

TRUE VERY TRUE !!!It's so sad though. They should get an ANIMAL COPS DUCK EDITION!!!
I'd so be a viewer and offer to take care of the poorly taken care of ducklings.

Or maybe a ... DUCK WHISPERER !!!

That broke my heart, I have taken in 2 ducks that were dumped in the river to fend for themselves, They are the best. I wish this could be posted in TSC in the spring, Someone else will have to do it though, I can't go in there when they have chicks and ducks.

I thought this was a fantastically written story from the point of view of the abandoned duck. She is wonderful!
You're right, Sioux-so many others are left to die because they just don't know what to do. They have no survival skills because they're DOMESTIC ducks! Wish some people would look up the word DOMESTIC in the dictionary BEFORE they throw these ducks out into the world. Ugh!
