I was looking forward to the new ones coming Sunday/monday. But with the snow we're having I knew we wouldn't be able to get to the post office and I was so afraid they wouldn't make it............
Called McMurray and as usual they were very nice, helpful and understanding of my need to push the order out til the next week. Now, if we don't get the snowstorm they're projecting for next weekend, we'll be in good shape.

I'm getting black astralorps and buff orpingtons. I love my BA girls (last year's order), so I needed more of them

and thought I'd try adding the BO, to see if they really do lay more eggs during winter. The BAs never actually stopped laying during the winter but there were times I was only getting 3 eggs up to 8 a day. The BOs are supposed to lay well in winter??

Besides, I think the black and buff colors will look beautiful together out in the field.

I enjoy my Ba's. They free range so well. Get along with the horses and calves. I have several that fly into the yard when it's afternoon scratch time and they meet me at the back door.

They don't mind the snow too much........... they don't mind rain at all. Several have gone through a light molt and became very friendly during that time. Why? I have no idea. But one just wanted me to hold her every time i went out. She reminded me of a dog, standing and starring at me til I picked her up. She'd actually cuddle down in my arm and sigh.
I want broodies and if the BAs don't, hopefully the BO will and i won't have to buy any chicks next year.

How'd you get out of all this mess?? It looks like this storm extends pretty well down across the state line. We've already gotten 10" of snow on top of what was still here from last weekend.

And "no" , you can't have my chickies.
