Graphic images!!! I have a 2 month old chocolate poult who had been attacked by a racoon? Not sure. Found her sister ripped apart and legs head and a wing left. Other 8 poults are ok. Mama Bronze daddy Choclate acquired some feather damage. Scared and skittish but no cuts or blood.took 2 bronze babies home doctored her. No bleeding. Hops up to perch but has Bones exposed. I used colidal silver. Eating drinking taking antibiotics in water. Is there a treatment or is this going to kill her . Help please

Pictures, please. Generous application of Blu Kote strongly advised. You must be on your toes to prevent fly strike. Antibiotics available?

Separate damaged bird from flock.

Welcome to BYC! Pictures would be helpful.

Carefully pluck all feathers from wound edges. Pluck about 1/4" from edge. When plucking, pluck in direction of feather growth to avoid further tearing of skin.

You have horses? I'd so, have you ever watched a vet clean and debride a wound? Initial cleaning is key. Wounds should be irrigated with sterile water and a proper antiseptic. What antibiotics do you have?

Aggressive use of Blu Kote to point area thoroughly wetted. Frequent inspection for and removal of fly egg masses. Laced water with electrolytes and antibiotic. Birds went a couples days with thermal regulation issues. Both isolated from flock and each other.

So no cleaning of the wounds?

In this case no. A huge amount of skin not limited to wings removed. No foreign debris noted. Necrosis did and is occuring but walled off. Both hens may come into lay before wings fall off.
