Poultry Breeding & Showing Class in Sonoma County CA

What a great idea.....Why didn't I think of that?????

I have purbred breeder bred hatching eggs in:

BCMs just starting to get fertile. Hatched my first one yesterday
Light Sussex from Thom Dean stock already hatching them
Delawares from Lotsapaints My most requested & sold last season
Black Australorps from Bruce Sherman stock
Black /Blue APA Orpingtons Black Ann Hehl Colorado Blue Gumpsgirl already hatching these
White Rocks Teri Gaarde Modesto young fertility not tested yet
Wheaten Marans cockerel Fitzgerald from Cheryl nice eggs but they are being stingy right now but slowly coming
True Ameraucanas Black/Blue cockerels over Black Black split to Lavender girls these are all from good breeders
Lavender Ameraucanas from Harry Shaffer stock already hatching
B/W Ameraucanas from Pips&Peeps stock through Jeremy this is Claude Sophie & Rose for those of you who remember them. Already hatching
White Silkies already hatching
Red Shoulder Yokohamas already hatching

Is anyone attending the class interested in doing a little egg swapping? I thought we might be able to take advantage of being able to hand eggs off in person instead of taking the gamble of entrusting them to the Post Office. There will be no selling in conjunction with the class, but we have permission to do our trading on the side with pickup/delivery occurring the day of the class.

Here is what I have to offer in pure breeds:

Blue Andalusians - Black Roosters over Blue, Black and Splash hens
Blue Cochins - All blue
Splash Sumatras - All splash

I also have some mixes for the adventurous: Sumatra x EE and Sumatra x Cuckoo Maran (Sumatra roos over the hens)

If anyone is interested, just let me know. I love to add new breeds and colors to the farm and am having too much fun with my incubators.

Jules

(I will be sending this to the email group as well so I apologize for many of you receiving this message twice.)

Eggs I can bring
Mille Fleur Leghorns (a few as I'm hatching for my own flock now)
Silver Penciled plymouth rocks - around 95% fertility they are laying machines, almost daily the 6 girls are laying
Coronation Sussex - I have to collect for karen but after that I'll have some (fertility will be spotty as I just added to new girls to the pen yesterday)

Chicks hatching Wed/thursday or so - not to jinx it or count my chickens before they hatch...but these are going into lockdown tomorrow, all developing
Mille Fleur Leghorns 7
Silver penciled plymouth rocks 10
Coronations 3
Isbars 5
Jubilees 3

Chicks about 1-2 weeks old
Coronations 4
Silver penciled plymouth rocks 5
Isbars 4

Cheryl,
I have a chicken lovin' friend nearby that has purebred Runner ducks that lay blue eggs. Her stock is Hollerand (sp). Maybe CowgirlJules might have some too. She has Runner ducks too. Just let me know.

I didn't even think about listing the chicks available... I will, if all goes as hoped and desired, have 10 each of the Cochin and Andalusian babies popping out on Tuesday. Their success rate has been wonderful in the last two hatches so I am optimistic. Fingers crossed for here and yours too Cheryl.

Fun Idea! I like trading!

Eggs To Trade: Splash Marans eggs (not many) or Splash X Wheaten AM = Olive Egger F1

I May Have: Golden Cuckoo Marans and/or Blue Copper Marans new chicks. (Inoculated for Marek's)

Other to Trade: Dry Creek Zinfandel : some of you have had it at previous picnics/parties!

Will take in Trade: Homemade salsa or hot pepper jelly! Other homemade yummy stuff!

Want from list so far: Hmmm... I am picking up my other new chicks right after class, so a few new chicks would be interesting! I would swap a bottle of Zin for the three Coronation Sussex chicks, Cheryl! (Inoculated for Marek's--I know you do this as your standard.)

Let me know.

Oooh, I just happen to have some major yummy hot pepper jelly and some pomegranate jelly I made in December. The hot pepper jelly is the bomb over cream cheese and crackers. Would love Marans chicks or eggs if no chicks..

Cheryl, I didn't think outside of chickens for trading. I have my jellies too.

I have some questions about Mareks. Is it a major problem in Sonoma Co? How do chickens catch it? I've heard that the vaccine is a live vaccine. I don't vaccinate my flock. So can my non-vaccinated birds catch Marek's from birds that are vaccinated or from the environment ie bringing them to the class?
Thanks,
Kim

Cheryl, I have one pair of white runner ducks. I can bring you some eggs. I don't know their lines - I bought them at the Stockton show, but the guy said his stock had won their variety there when I talked to him at Fresno.

I have some Silver Laced Wyandotte eggs which I can bring if anyone wants them. I have some older chicks of that breeding too, as well as Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chicks.
