Most farmers are moving into the digital age. They are using Tablets and computers. Some are even moving the data up to the cloud!I could use some help with this too. It was easy with my flock of 100 breeding canaries, but I had various colored bands. One permanent metal band for id, and two plastic slip on bands per bird. One for the sex, and another for the type. I can not figure out what size or where to get any for the PP's. Our local farm store that carries them does not have a very good selection of sizes or colors.
Along with that I used a card file system using 5 x 8 index cards, one for each canary, moving the information into a spiral bound notebook by breed, parents, where purchased, leg band number, and sex of each baby that I raised. Some could have had photos too, but I didn't have the computer at that time. Those sold were just marked sold. It was not the best, but it worked for a few years. I raised as many as 700 a year for a few years. It was fun... but way more work than the chickens are. The profits went to buy more breeders and attend the National Cage Bird Show. It was a lot of fun going to the show to see what other breeders were able to produce. No... I never did show, but I sure brought home some lovely birds. It was back when there was no xray machines and they rode home in a small dog crate stuffed under my seat.Sure can not get away with that anymore.![]()
It has come in very handy this year.Thank you Ron. I kept a copy of that in my files. Now, I need to remember to print it out and USE IT! Thanks again.
Ron, you mentioned, on another thread, that your Pita Pintas are HUGE. I would love to see a picture of one that has something for comparison... say, maybe YOU. Be sure to tell us how tall you are if you do it, or use some other standard item.
