I have one week olds, three week olds, and six week olds in brooders. My power is out and won't be on until tomorrow sometime. Are they all doomed?

UPDATE

Power is back on. Thank you all for your suggestions and even offers of help. WIthout BYC these chicks might have died. I am so grateful to all of you. They are all happy and healthy.

hmm... chicks usually huddle together when they're cold..mayby if they all huddle together they'll be okay...but i dont want to take any chances. do you have a generator?

How many are there?? You could put them in a pocket of a sweatshirt or something to keep them warm. I think the 6 week olds will probably be fine.

This just happened to us. I went out to Walmart and bought those therma care heat pads for the back.... and then brought them home and wrapped them in a dish towel. The therma care pads heated up and the colder chick laid on them. The pads are supposed to stay warm for 12 hours but our power came back on before that. I guess you could feel them and change them out with new ones if they cooled off. I wrapped mine b/c they seems sooo hot but maybe taking the dish towel off later would make them last longer...

One of the smaller chicks went right over and laid on it flat on her belly. It seemed to perk her up. Also they would sit for a while warm up then run around, then go back for more warmth. Prob not a long term solution but worked for us.

Good luck
