Power out; brooder cold- UPDATE - THANK YOU BYC

Same thing happened here. We bought those hand warmers from Menards and they last 18 hours, wrapped them in a sock so there was no way the baby could touch it's skin against it, just in case. They run about $1.00 a piece. Hope this helps.

I just noticed you are in Dover. We're in Thomasville. Email me if you need anything. If worse comes to worse bring them over and we can warm them up here for awhile....

that is an unbelievably kind offer. Right now I have them covered with about 4 large towels and I think I will run to Walmart for those heat things..such a good idea!!! Thank you all so much. If my chicks survive it will be because of BYC.

Fill up bowls that have lids with hot water, and zip lock bags and set them under a towel in the brooder, that's better than nothing!

oh i hope those chicks are ok

i'll be so super sad if something happenes to them

All chirping this morning. Toasty in the towel covered brooder with those neck therapy warmers stuck to the walls., I stuck them on low in three spots and they are gathered near them. The bigger kids are kind of crowded, but fine. It was the weekies I was really worried about. I cannot get over the concern and kindness shown on this site - someone I never met invited me to bring my chicks to her house. I wlil never forget that.

I am so glad to hear your babies are doing well! I just saw this post for the first time- I had the same exact thing happen to me last week- My One DAY old chicks were in their brooder- with me a first time chicken owner-and the power went out at 2 am! Power didn't come back until about 11 am- We put bottles of hot water in the brooder with them and then ended up moving the entire brooder (a plastic rubbermaid) into our hot water filled bathtub.

If your adventure is anything like ours was, you had one exhausting night watching over your little ones.

Hope you are now getting some much deserved, much needed rest!

Best wishes!
