Power out; brooder cold- UPDATE - THANK YOU BYC

Day old chicks are mailed all over the country from hatcheries. They are in a box full of holes and usually packed about 25 to a compartment. The trip can take up to 3 days and the only heat they have is that provided by their companions. Just something to think about.

how sad! I would try the heat packs and keep them close together, if one gets week looking, pick it up and warm it with your hands, or lightly blow in your hands to warm them. rub on their bellies to keep blood cirulation going. Good Luck!

I have gas water heater and city water pressure. So when the power is out I still have hot water and can flush the toilet. Electric stove though. No cooking. Going to get a gas stove soon and solve that problem.

Thank goodness this was true for us too! We have a gas water heater and our water is scalding hot so it really worked to keep changing out the water bottles and the bath water-

One did get a pasty vent the next day from the stress, I'd guess, but she cleaned up well and is doing great now

I also learned to add ACV to their waterer...
