prayer warriors (following Jesus Christ, everyone welcome)

Well its a good point ;)

I think.it was "allowed" but not necessarily condoned. There may have been a shortage of men? Too many homeless women? A need to populate as fast as possible?

It obviously didn't go so well when it did occur, so I would guess it was allowed to be a lesson as well. We have enough problems with sibling rivalry and jealousy without making Rachel and Leah have to compete for a man.

I was also curious of how Leah named her sons...it took until the fourth son, Judah, before she actually gave thanks for them? Hmmm also a problem, trying to FORCE your husband to love you more by piling up baby boys....

Anyway, I really am quite positive that if my husband brought home a second wife, there would be one very unhappy first wife lol :p

If I brought home another wife I'd be one dead husband. Not that I would ever want to do that. I have the most awesome wife I could ever dream of. I am blessed beyond belief to have her in my life.

Jesus Prophesy Study #58 "make intersession for the transgressors"

Old Testament:

Isaiah 53 NASB
12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,
And He will divide the booty with the strong;
Because He poured out Himself to death,
And was numbered with the transgressors;
Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,
And interceded for the transgressors.

New Testament:

Luke 23 NASB
34 But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.

I was just talking about that with DH today!... How hard it must have been to have been Leah but how the line actually continued through her. I'm curious in something else though. It was before the Mosaic covenant, so adultery wasn't really wrong? But.... Why was it OK to have more than one wife and concubines and handmaidens etc? Obviously it caused some pretty significant problems, what with Hagar and Ishmael then here we go with Jacob, Rachel, Leah, and then their handmaids. Why were there multiple wives so much in that era?
That is a good question, and I think R58 answered it quite well. But, if any one wants to dig up scripture regarding this, that would be a nice little bunny trail to follow for a bit. I agree, it was allowed, but not condoned. When God promised a child to Abraham and Sarah, Sarah became impatient, and tried to fulfill God's promise through Hagar. What a mess that ended up in!

One thing that I have learned is that just because it is recorded by Gods inspiration in the Bible doesn't make it ok. That has been one of the toughest lessons for me in my study. Slavery is recorded in the Bible as well as adultery and many other things that are sins but I have not found it anywhere in the Bible that God approves of these things. There are many lies recorded in the Bible. Almost all of them associated with satan or demons. I pray that I explained my point well enough to be understood. Like I've said before. I'm just not good getting my fingers to type or my mouth to say what I'm thinking. Lol
Well said.

Well its a good point

If my hubby brought home a second wife, um... that just would not happen, never, ever. I think it was allowed during that time because there was no social welfare system. A woman who was alone in the world had absolutely no resources. So, to become a second wife, under the care of any man was better for her than to remain alone and impoverished. Women could not own land. Women were pretty much relegated to being posessions, much like the cattle and sheep. The Jewish law, as harsh as it seems by todays standards actually afforded protection for women, compared to the treatment they received outside of the law.

If I brought home another wife I'd be one dead husband. Not that I would ever want to do that. I have the most awesome wife I could ever dream of. I am blessed beyond belief to have her in my life.
I consider my hubby to be my greatest earthly treasure! He's my best friend, my rock, my advisor, the best part of every day. Coming up on 43 years!

I heard a little from Sally. She is still in recovery, oxygen level won't stay up, can't swallow, sore, but her shoulder doesn't hurt anymore.

Father, We lift Sally up to you. We pray that your healing hand will rest on her. Help her O2 sats to return to normal levels, remove her pain quickly. Give her medical team wisdom and compassion. In the name of Jesus, we pray.

I want to watch but I can't.

It's odd,my stepfamily is all Catholic.I've been to weddings and such but I never asked any questions. I might not always agree with or understand it, but I admire your conviction to your faith. It's hard being attacked from all sides but you handle it with grace and love, so thank you for that
