prayer warriors (following Jesus Christ, everyone welcome)

Sir, with all due respect, that is actually what we are doing here.... But I wouldn't use the word "debate"...

It's a " prayer thread"... We pray for each other, learn from each other, support each other...

We learn about each others differences in mutual respect. Sure, we have disagreed before. We also can agree to disagree and have respect for each others different points on our respective paths of spiritual maturity.

We share a love for Jesus. We are not, and have never claimed to be, A church. But a gathering of believers that have a love for His Word.

I pray for peace here, on the Lord's day. We can learn and grow by loving each other and helping each other grow. :)

I literally explained what it meant... it is to become a member of your baptist church...to have a good conscience towards God...and did you hear what the people have been sayin...take a step back

OK guys this is getting a little heated just from what I been able to read. Nyfarmer it's fine if you y'all want to continue this topic in a PM but let's end it here that goes for everyone else as well. And nyfarmer welcome to the thread.

true... but this is for a church of one denomination... but i agrree there shouldnt be this much arguing
nyfarmer as the founder of this thread I happen to be Baptist, however I have never said or set a limit of who could be a part of this tread. This thread is open for all. Believers and non believers as such we are to respect one another. Our job isn't to decide how God reach people but to respect the fact we all his creation and his will be done. There will be no more agruing about this thread origin or purpuse. The sole purpose is to pray for each and lead other to Christ as is our Christian call.

I so agreed, let's keep it light hearted and loving, there are a lot of young believers/christians in this thread. There are time for rebuke and there are time for grace/compassion. Let the Holy Spirit do the conviction job, after we share our opinions let it simmer for God to do His job.. we sometimes put God in a box to only deal w/ people as we think He will. (For your thoughts are not my thoughts, neither your ways are my ways). In my over zealousness couple of yrs ago I pushed many people away including my own dad. Peace be with you!!!

Here's the next installment in our study of Peter. This is going much slower than I expected it to go! There is a lot of meat here! Chapter 16: 1-12 lay the groundwork for the following verses that are the topic of tonight's study. There is also a study guide: https://www.blueletterbible.org/Comm/guzik_david/StudyGuide_Mat/Mat_16.cfm
that might help you out with some of the difficult verses. Please have fun with this, and I implore all participants to not make any of this study a source of argument.

The Demand for a Sign

16 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’
3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a]
4 A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5 When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread.6 “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
7 They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”
8 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves
about having no bread?
9 Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?
10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?
11 How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.
18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[b] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.”
20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
Jesus Predicts His Death

21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
25 For whoever wants to save their life[f] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.
26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
Questions:
Why would the people think that Jesus was one of the prophets? (v 16:13)
What was the difference between the miracles associated with Elijah, and the miracles performed by Jesus? (See I Kings 17)
Do you think this difference between Elijah's miracles and Jesus' miracles entered into Peter's confession of Jesus being the Messiah, the Son of the living God?
In verse 18, what is the rock that Jesus refers to?
What are your thoughts regarding the keys to the kingdom of heaven?
Why do you think that Jesus told the disciples not to tell any one that He was the Messiah?
Why did Peter rebuke Jesus when Jesus told them about his death and resurrection?
Why did Jesus call Peter satan? And why did He state that Peter had human rather than Godly concerns?
Finally, what does it mean to take up your cross and follow Jesus?

You have to go to desktop mode on mobile or on a real computer (doesn't work on mobile mode) and on that there are way more options and one is a video icon :)
