Hey! Look what popped up in my lesson this morning! I feel like its meant to be shared :)

Get to Know God Better

You were made to live in relationship with God, and if you think you can be joyful without getting to know him better, you’re just fooling yourself. Happiness is found in getting to know God a little bit better every day.

Paul discovered that. He says in Philippians 3:10, “For my determined purpose is that I may ... progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly” (AMP).

There is a difference in knowing about someone and knowing someone. I know more about Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian than I want to, but I don’t really know them. I know my wife and I know my kids because I spend time with them. I have a relationship with them.

Paul became “deeply and intimately acquainted” with God because he had a relationship with him and took the time to get to know him.

You don’t get to know God by accident. It’s a “determined purpose.” It’s something you have to do something about. You have to invest your time in it.

But, we get too busy, and busyness destroys relationships. It destroys your relationship with your family, and it destroys your relationship with God.

To get to know Jesus, you’ve got to spend time with him. If you want to spend time with him, you’ve got to make time for him. Just set aside 10 or 15 minutes of focused time with God in the morning, and make sure you and your mind are not busy. Just be still, and it will make all the difference in the world.

Wow that's great and too true! I need to work more on this. And start reading those 2 devotionals i was reading again, stopped a few months ago. And also start using the app. I haven't used it once since I got it I'm sorry to say..... :/  and also get a new Bible. Or use the app. Mine is getting completely mangled because the OCD requires me to carry it everywhere and also sleep with it (holding it) which obviously during the night turns to sleeping ON it/it getting thrown all over the bed. I'm not sure why I stopped reading them. Gotta start again. I guess I can't expect God to help me if I don't try to know Him haha but then again what about all the stuff about meeting you where you're at or not needing to do anything/much cause God/Jesus already did it, etc. etc.? But yeah. Thanks for this. I need to do this more. But I also need to get up earlier cause when I wake up late and am already running late to school, I really don't have time to spend 10 or 15 minutes reading those and be even later than I already am haha but obviously God is more important than school and other stuff so I'm going to start making time, even if it means getting up a few minutes earlier haha

You answered your own question ;)

Anybody is free to help out here, BTW lol, I feel like I'm clogging the thread lately :p

Ok, I'll use my kids as an example here...

How well does it work if my daughter talks back, refuses to do her chores, is hitting her sister, kicking the dog, and then demands that I give her some ice cream?

In our house, the future of ice cream looks bleak. :p

But, say she does her chores without bring prodded, is cheerful and thankful in her time with her sister, listens to and lovingly respects me, and snuggles the dog, while asking nicely for some ice cream?

Very likely.

When we are thankful and loving and gracious to others, our Father will be gracious to us. Jesus saves us from death, which is the greatest gift of all, but IMO, in order to receive abundance, we have to GIVE in abundance.

There has to be some scripture on that; anybody want to find it for us? ;)

I did??

But ahhh oaky.. that makes sense.

Sooo.. He might help without doing anything but He's more likely to help if you're truly devoted or interested or whatever?

I guess I was just thinking it was two different camps but maybe not. Cause like I've seen some Christians that say or think that you don't need to do anything, Jesus already did it all for us, and you just need to believe (although I guess even that's doing something if you truly believe and read the Bible etc.) and then there's the ones that think you have to do a bunch of works and stuff. Or are works different altogether??

This one too

skipped another to find this one but ya. Oddly the exact songs for my situation are coming on not just random Christian songs

Without going into too TMI earlier I got the gas pain thing again, managed to go and knew what to do, but I tend to think God isnt there or something when the pain hits.

But now I randomly just got really motivated to do this paper. And then turned this on and ya

And also i did go outside today so maybe that helped haha

Excuse me Prayer Warriors, can you please pray for my chickens. I am going out of town for 2 weeks, and my uncle (who is watching them) I don't think he would catch them if they got out! He thinks chickens are mindless egg-laying machines. So please pray for their safety! Thank you! God bless, Garret

Today, we are covering the day that Peter walked on water. This episode is only covered in the book of Matthew. But, before going to that miraculous scene, let's look at the preceeding events: I've included a study guide for your use if you want to dig deeper.

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Jesus Walks on the Water

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
34 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

Questions:
A huge crowd had gathered, and were pressing in on Jesus for Him to heal all of their illnesses. As the day continued, He, and His disciples were getting tired and hungry. The disciples saw a problem. Lots of hungry people. Their solution to the problem was to send those people away.
How does Jesus solve the problem?
5000 men, not counting women and children were fed by Jesus and the disciples that day.
How very like Jesus to not only meet the immediate need, but do do so far in excess of what we can imagine!
We see repeated instances where Jesus meets the physical needs of the people around Him. Then, he addresses the spiritual need. Is this an example we should be following in our own ministry to those around us? Can you think of any examples about how you could apply this concept in your own life?
After Jesus fed the 5000, he sent the disciples on ahead of him in a boat, while he withdrew to a mountainside to spend time with His Holy Father. Can you share your thoughts regarding why He sent the disciples on ahead in the boat, instead of having them wait on the shore for Him?
The disciples thought they were seeing a ghost walking across the water toward their boat. Jesus spoke, and calmed their fears. But, obviously, there was some doubt, as evidenced by Peter's statement in verse 28. Why do you think Peter asked Jesus to command him to walk across the water to meet Him? (When he simply could have done so?)
So, Peter jumps out of the boat, and starts walking toward Jesus. Until his faith wavers. Can you share any Bible verses that are helpful at helping us to keep our eyes on Jesus, to keep our faith strong in Jesus, and His ability to see us through the storms of life?
When they were all in the boat, they ALL worshiped Jesus, proclaiming Him to be the Son of God. What is your impression, that it is not until this point when the disciples acknowledge Jesus to be the Son of God, when they have witnessed so many miracles prior to this event?
The disciples and Jesus arrive at the other side of the lake to find a crowd not at all dis-similar to the one they just left. People were looking for miracles. In verse 36, people were begging to simply touch the edge of His cloak for healing. Why did they not just touch Him? (consider the difference between the culture of that day, and the Jewish law compared to our culture and non Jewish customs)
