We also had a CT scan done to see why the chest xrays were showing up pretty cloudy looking on the left lower lobe of the lung. The cloudy area was much bigger today than the last couple days. The concern was lung abnormality, fluid around the lung, or a blood clot. Test came back as the pneumonia causing that. It's been bad enough to battle with the antibodies attacking her nerves but right now we are seriously concerned with her lungs.
The GBS has attacked all 12 cranial nerves and her autonomic system so her heart rate, BP, and temperature regulator are all out of wack. She's burning up and I'm freezing to death in this room. She's got a fan blowing on her at all times and I'm wrapped in my blanket.
Update for Tuesday May 25th..... from Michelles Mom
Today was a GOOD day! Michelle was able to open both eyes 1/2 way and offer up a tiny smile! That's huge because all 12 cranial nerves were affected and the neurologist was really pleased with the progress so far.
Yesterday Michelle had a REALLY rough day. She had a trach put in, a bronchoscopy, a CT of her throat to make sure she didn't permanently damage her vocal cords when she pulled her tube out last Wednesday, and a PIC line inserted.
I am going to put a few jars out at some local churches to try and raise some funds for Michelle and her Mom. Mom has been by her beside the whole time (3 weeks now) and Michelle doesnt' have health insurance. She was on Medicaid until she turned 19 and then it ws dropped. She got a job and tried to get medicaid again (you can have it till your 21 somehow) anyways she ws told whe made to much money but yet she didn't make enough to buy her own insurance. Anyways, this is going to be a financial strain on the family as a whole, so Lord willing we can get some funds for her.
