Alright, now that it's finally warming up in NH, I have been seing a lot more of the predators lately......Yikes!

Let's go through a list and see what we have!

thumbsup.gif
Dogs: Not to many bothersome ones around here.....my own dog is a whimp but I should keep an eye on her......

Opossums: Have only seen one.......not to worried about these guys

thumbsup.gif
Raccoon: Have only seen a few, but I know they're sneaky!

Fox: Seen only one, but there are definitely signs that they're around

thumbsup.gif
Coyote: Probably the predator I should be most worried about....saw the pack of 8 the other day and heard them howling..

thumbsup.gif
Hawk/Owl: Had two hawks circling the other day, don't even have chickens yet! These guys are going to worry me

Mink/Weasle: Again, I've only seen one

Man: Yes, definitely have some neighbors on the look out.....

Please feel free to add some and talk about your predators!

We found tiny little paw prints on our screen porch little boogers trying to break in!

All of the above plus rats killed one of my 6week old chicks and I lost some quail and 2 bantams to an oversized feral cat last year.

Well i can add 2 to the list, Bear and Bobcat......have had the bear here twice but so far no sign of the bobcats we know have a den not to far away. We also have the coy dogs and astray feral cat.

I noticed you put hawk as a predator. Will Hawks go after full grown chickens and if so what kind of Hawks. I have red shoulder hawks with babies but they seem more interested in rodents, lizzards and frogs.

I woke up to a fox in my backyard this morning! Chickens were all safe but I dont feel comfortable letting them out the pen now unless im out there with them.

Nothing seen here yet except for Sparrow Hawks (which are pretty small...a little larger than a crow/raven). And owls are out at night. And there's a ferral cat that used to roam around but haven't seen it lately...Oh and one of our neighbor's chickens suddenly disappeared during the night and its feathers were everywhere on the lawn. No blood or anything so we don't know what did it. My only guess would be that the hen got left outside somehow, wondered over to our side on the lawn, and an owl got it.

Poor hen.

I'm glad we don't have too many predators around my dad's house! Although we're building a coop and getting chickens at my mom's house, so we'll see what predators are here...hopefully before they get any chickens. All I know of are the Sparrow Hawks.
