Predator proofing coop

Lost some to hens to a raccoon. They are smart. I suggest using u nails for the lumber and hardware cloth I also placed lumber on both sides and sandwiched it. Had to make sure to bury it a little so they don't dig under it. And I had to make sure the latches were hard to open cause some predators have learned how to use them Never used electric on mine but it sounds like it would be a great idea

The man who built my chicken coop said "if a toddler can open it so can a raccoon". So when he started building coops and was trying out different locks and latches he would have his 3 year old try to open them. He used only those latches the child couldn't open and said he hasn't had anything break into his coops in the 6 years he's been building them.
