Predators for goats...

The lady we got our goats from had a donkeys. Something about them keep the preds aways. She had lost a few babies to coyotes.

I lock all of mine up at night in our garage/barn. I cleaned out the garage and bought a bunch of dog kennel panels and gates and my goats are outside all day with me and inside at about three in the afternoon.
We have coyotes, bobcats, and a mountain lion that live by us, we also have 7 dogs; one of them is a Great Pyrenees. Llamas are good guardians too.
I want chickens, but my husband says they would just be bait for the predators and attract too much attention to the goats in the yard.

I keep my goats and my chickens in the garage at night. We have bears, coyotes and foxes, as well as the ocasional panther in our yard at night and none of them are getting my feathered and hooved family members!

Lots of folks say we've got a bad coyote problem here in central Kentucky, but I disagree. No sir, I say we've got some of the finest coyotes in the world!

We don't put our goats up at night, but we do plan on putting the chickens up. We have a big dog called a Sarplaninac out there standing guard...he'd make two coyotes or better, and every bit as ferocious. I almost pity the coyote that would wander in the barn at night....almost.

But, not really.

Not so surprisingly, we've actually seen an uptick in the wild barnyard bunny population since we got our LGD, and he's not even had to fight anything yet.. I'm sure the whole tri-county yodel dog guild knows he's around by now.

For what it's worth, an elderly neighbor of mine said that when everybody in this area used to keep sheep, they all got to where they'd put lights up around the barn to keep the coyotes away. The sheep learned pretty quickly to bed down under the lights, and they didn't much have a predation problem after that.

Lights work, apparently.

I'd feel better with a big dog under the lights too, though..

That's really cool. My dog is now used to going in at night. I'm hoping those kids stay safe out there till I can get a close up shed built.

I do not get an animal that is vulnerable to coyotes unless I can protect them every night. I bring my dog in at night and I LOCK UP my chickens.

ALL the miniature babies are with their mamas in the horse barn, no exception. We have a big mare that is crazy about the minis in the pasture and she will chase just about anything down.

I do have ONE lonely, obnoxious, ill mannered goat and he is in the horse barn LOCKED UP. He will not come out until he sees me ( I try to avoid him in the morning as I have much to do).

I have not had a coyote come into a building yet, but I have heard that it does happen if there is enough food.
Coyotes are a menace, kill them if you can.

I have never lost a goat to a preditor but I lost several to my donkey( he stomped them and broke their necks( strange thing is hw was raised with them since he was a cuple of months old) now he isn't allowed near my goats

With our goats we were more worried about or neighbors dogs than anything.When you have chickens and goats they are the biggest threat.
A guy not far from us in Erin NY raises goats and had a coyote problem,with them stealing the kids.He got a great pyrenees.Then they would come down a few at a time lure the dog away and the others would go back for the kids.He got a second pyrenees and said the two dogs were quite a team.The coyotes would come down lure one dog away but the other would stay with the kids.After awhile no more coyote problem.
He said the dogs thought they were really goats.He fed them and they slept with the goats.After a birth the dogs would eat the afterbirth and bonded with that goat kid forever.If his male got ahold of a coyote he would do a number on it.Said he was fearless.
