Predators in Alabama?

We have property in Banks, AL and have seen Coyotes, Bobcats, Racoons, Possums and Rodents LIVE and IN PERSON! At our home in FL, we have possums that will fight til death to get into our coops. They are our hugest problem! Traps work well for possums, racoons and cats. We've trapped our fair share of those. Good luck protecting your flock!!

Thanks!!! Whenever my chicks are outside they are in their closed mini-coop. Metal screening over top, chicken wire on the sides, and four sturdy posts on the corners. There are hawks that fly over my neighborhood...Can't let them taste MY chicks blood!!!!!

i freerange my chickens and guineas and have had a few losses. i am right on the edge of a heavily urbanized area and hundreds of acres of wooded gvot land. i have seen one stray dog and several hawks take mostly adolescent birds. the other problem i have is that i have so many snakes around my wooded acreage. i caught one snake with 6 ingested egg "lumps". i dont kill the snakes, but have hauled the biggest ones off ...on a few occasions.

my great danes and rat terriers make great flock watchers for the most part. i have an open air coop too. i have a covered roof, but all sides are 1"x2" galvanized wire. the dogs and chickens get along very well. i give them alot of credit!

Dont forget the gators if you live near any river! Youve got hawks and falcons for your aerial predators.

I am about 20 miles north of Birmingham. Bears and gators are definately not a worry. However everything else mentioned is.
I work in the Hoover area inspecting new homes. Ran a coyote out of an unfinished basement in a subdivision during the broad daylight.
I mostly have problems with racoon killing chickens and snakes stealing eggs.

well, while were putting it all out on the table....i have seen a panther run across the road in front of me in broad daylight. not black, not a bobcat.....a massive tan colored FELIS CONCOLOR aka mountain lion. we also have a 10 ft gator in the pond on our family farmland.

if i have an alligator or panther coming to my house to eat my chickens.....its time to take up an indoor hobby like stamp collecting or painting.
