Preen Gland - Infected or Normal?

Always noticed this chicken had a lack of feathers on her back. My rooster died over the summer last year so no possible irritation that way... today I noticed her gland was very red - is this normal or is it infected? (Sorry pictures aren’t the best)

If it’s infection, what’s the treatment?

It sure appears to be irritated. Have you checked closely for mite or louse infestation?

I wouldnt say it's infected, but it would be best to put neosporin on it as needed.

Ok thanks! I put some DE on them and the coop just in case of mites but didn’t visualize any last night. I will definitely try neosporin!
