Preferred method of treating for mites?

So I know feather and health condition. I know how to treat for mites, and what signs to look for. I usually use a spray, but I was just curious as to how you prefer to treat for mites? thanks!

I use permethrin dust (lower toxicity level than many other insecticide dusts like Sevin) when it is needed. I also spray the coop with a natural spray including clove oil, citronella and a few other essential oils after cleaning on occasion. I do parasite checks quarterly (unless health issues are seen). However, I've found that given plenty of space and access to a kiddy pool full of dry dirt, the biddies take care of themselves via dust bathing and preening really well on their own.

I'll spray my birds with permethrin 10 around the base of the neck, under the wings, and around the vent. Or wherever there are mites. Then I'll spray the permethrin in the nest boxes and coop.

I use topical ivermectin 2-3 treatments, 7-10 days apart, cleaning the coop each time to bring down the population around to be poisoned once they bite. Yep. It works.

I use permethrin spray concentrate, at night, on the birds and everywhere in the coop.
It's approved for use in poultry, and there's no egg withdrawal time.
Some years mites aren't a problem here, and some years, like this one, they show up!

For the first time I had a small flare up in 4 chicks I bought this year, of scaly leg mites, I made a concoction of coconut oil, tea tree, clove oil, mint and rosemary oil, I brushed this on their legs for 4 or 5 days and then every 4 days for a couple weeks just to be sure, it worked great. They were still in a brooder so I just cleaned and washed out, a large plastic tub, every few days. I'm not sure if thus would work with a stronger infestation, so I do keep the permithrin powder around now just in case.

Meaning you've actually seen the mites on the birds and maybe in the coop?

Haven't had mites here(knock wood) just scaly leg mites(which I treat with bag balm).
I use permethrin dust or spray for lice.

I have a question while we are on the topic:

Permethrin is incredibly harmful to cats...which i have. Id prefer not to get the stuff. Anyone have treatment recommendations that dont involve it? I know prevention is key and ive taken the steps but just in case...
