Hi,
My goat is pregnant and I'm wondering if anyone can help me find out how much longer she has. I know she's very close to kidding but I'm not sure how close. Today she's been pawing at the ground and being extra affectionate towards me. She's also been rolling on her side and laying down then jumping back up. I've also a lot of baby action in her belly. She hasn't had much mucus but I have a feeling she's very close. Does anyone have any idea how close she is?

Alright

I am so sorry I haven't had a goat in over 40 years but she sounds close ,,,, I am sure a goat person will come along soon or someone with more recent knowledge then I

She does sound close, is she close enough for you to monitor often. Do you have her indoors at night where she will be safe from predators. Some people hook up baby monitors, so can they keep an ear open for any happenings. Is this her first pregnancy? I've never assisted at a goat birth but, years ago used to deliver a lot of puppies when momma wouldn't or couldn't do it herself.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I'm afraid I've never had a goat kid. But I do know @NorthFLChick has. Her goat had twins a few weeks ago. Maybe you would like to PM her and I'm sure she would be able to help you.

Wishing you the very best of luck, I really hope things go well for you.

Enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC, I am also pretty new here.

I have been raising goats for the last 8 years hopefully I can give you some advice.
When a goat is close to kidding the do tend to become ether more affectionate or less affectionate. She will start pawing at the ground and she may wander away from the herd. Other big signs are softening of the ligaments (the area right under her tail), sometimes a does udder will fill up right before she kids, and the shape of her body might change as the kids move position. You can find a lot of information on Fiasco Farms website.
Also I want you to know that most does are great at taking care of their kids. There has only been about three times that I have had to intervene and help a doe. So don't worry to much I'm sure everything will go fine and soon you will have little cute goat kids running around! Good luck!

Good morning, welcome to BYC!

We did have twins here recently and we knew our girl Prancer was getting close when her ligaments started getting soft (just like @PearlDragon said) and her belly dropped really low. Our doe has always been affectionate so I can't say that changed much. She seemed restless and unable to get comfortable, very understandable, lol! We watched for the mucous plug and once that appeared, she had her twins later that same day. Prancer has had kids before without difficulty and this time was no different. She was in labor for about 3-4 hours then the 1st kid (little girl) popped right out and her brother came about 10-15 minutes later. He had a bit of a problem at first...we had to do a bit of work to get him breathing but that quickly improved.

Here they are just minutes after being born:

That's our girl, Twink

And here's her brother, Chappy

Hope all goes well with your delivery and that you come back and share the newborns with us! Baby goats are wonderful.

https://fiascofarm.com/goats/kidding.htm That link has it all laid out for you with great pictures and information for the kidding process. :) Any babies yet? Sounds like to me she may be positioning them.
