Hi, i hatched my first chick in a DIY incubator (my mistake) and there were severe temperature fluctuations. My chick hatched very sticky, and it took 2 days after the first pip. I ended up having to help it out of the shell, its legs were too weak (i helped on day 2, very slowly and carefully). Its very active now, it can eat and drink with assistance. BUT IT CANT WALK. Had both straddle leg and curled toes. Ive put a brace for the leg, and fixed the toes with a sandle. But it cannot walk. It is very tiny, and im giving vitamins and molasses and a good diet. It can move its wings, legs, toes and neck separately, but cannot raise itself, neck or legs, to walk. Sort of just drags itself everywhere, even with the braced leg. (Its been 2 days since it hatched, and had the straddle leg brace on for 24 hours now)
How do i get my chick to stand and walk???

I would just provide supportive care until it gains enough strength to walk. I wouldn't force anything. @Pyxis @WVduckchick
Oh okay thank you. I dont mind waiting, i literally have alarms to feed him every 2-4 hours but i just want to know that im not missing out on something important i should be doing right now

Are the hobbles above the joints (knee). I believe you have them too high.
Study the photos and video in the link below, see where she's placing the hobbles.

I would give her poultry vitamins that contain B2 (Riboflavin).

They are both above and below. I had to brace the leg, and below the knee because its legs were still behind it, even though i placed a brace below the knee. It wouldnt bring its legs forward under it, so the below knee brace just brought them together, but at the back. Do you think i should still remove the brace above the knee?

I dont have access to poultry vitamins, what im giving has vitamin A, D, B1, B2, B6 and C. Is that fine?

I agree, a chick chair may be helpful.

The legs being behind the chick is concerning. Since this one had trouble with hatch it may be a deformity or even fail to thrive.

Hard to know if the brace above the knee needs to come off but I can't see how the chick can learn to walk if it's hobbled in both places.

Do you have a photo of the vitamins you are using? What you have is probably o.k. to use for a few days. If it's human vitamin tablets, I would only give 1/4 tablet a day.

I removed the leg brace, now only the hobble is in place, like the picture you attached. In just 12 hours it seems to have improved, the legs are under it better now.
Its human infant vitamin drops, i mix a drop in its water daily. (It doesnt drink all the water)
Thank you for all your help. Ill try to make a chick chair tomorrow, and keep you posted with the results. Its a tiny chick, hoping it gains strength soon.
