Big tree over the run. Shade for the ducks. Why it ate my two runners and not Mini the wonder duck remains a mystery. Tiny little Mini seems invincible. She will probably get eaten tomorrow since I said that.

DH thinks it climbed the tree by the fence and jumped in. I do have a pair of Barred Owls but I have never seen them out during the day. I also have a Barn owl but not during the day. Mid day is coyote and bobcat time.

Yeah if you have big trees on the perimeter, an electric fence's usefulness is greatly diminished.
I really wish I could use electric fencing but the entire perimeter of the property is all huge trees. One evening a few years ago, I went out at dusk to lock up and a whole family of raccoons were descending from a tree and climbing down onto one of the coops' roofs.

Were the ducks dismembered or missing?

Missing. nary a feather left. Just gone.

Then I would assume fox. They can jump a fence of any height. They will take the bird and leave. A raccoon will kill and eat some on the spot.

I have never seen a red Fox here. Gray Fox but they are mainly vegetarian. More likely coyote or bobcat of both we have a plethora

You have both red and gray. Grays are omnivorous eating rabbits, mice, voles and birds besides fruit.
