Preparedness and your health.

According to the Harvard Study Fluoride causes brain damage and a 7 point I.Q loss:

http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/features/fluoride-childrens-health-grandjean-choi/

The study concludes that fluoride is equivalent to lead and mercury in its neurotoxic effects.

Things to consider:
a. Even if you use flouride filters like Propurtm you still might absorb fluoride from bathwater.
b. Bottled water can be toxic from the plastic leaching into the water and is usually flouridated anyway around 10% of tapwater levels. Exceptions like Deeprocktm exist. Distilled water lacks trace minerals.
c. According to the label if you swallow more than a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste contact poison control.

Fluoride was first introduced as a way to pacify prisoners of war during WWII, first by the Russians and then by the Germans. Since democratic votes to introduce fluoride into municipal water supplies routinely fail, it is usually added administratively. Sodium fluoride is used in toothpaste, sodium fluorosilicate is added to drinking water. Sodium fluorosilicate is a toxic derivative scrubed from glycophosphate factory chimneys. This would cost the companies that produce it millions to dispose of but instead the taxpayer pays for it to be added to drinking water.

Iodine is an essential element for proper cell function. It is used by the thyroid for producing hormones, and it is used for the tratment of hyper-active thyroids.
Table salt was iodized in the US to combat the "goiter epidemic" in the Great Lakes region, and it worked. The typical modern diet is iodine deficient so the addition of iodine to table salt is so important. Iodine deficiency has been linked to higher cancer rates and thyroid problems.
In the US, the croplands are iodine deficient, so our natural source of iodine in the diet is not providing what we need to be healthy.

While the above post is true [and also includes the Pacific Northwest as having iodine deficient soil and most famously Crete in Greece] things have changed since the 1920's with the manufacturing of toxic chemicals and more cost effective ways of harvesting salt. Table salt or "Iodized salt" is not a healthy naturally occuring rock, crystal or sea salt. It has all sorts of chemical added to it. These chemicals may include manufactured forms of iodide, sodium solo-co-aluminate, fluoride sodium bicarbonate, toxic amounts of potassium iodide, anti-cakiing agents and aluminum derivatives. Most table salt is not only unhealthy, but is toxic to the body.

Salt found in nature is usually pink in color such as Himalayan Crystal salt, and loaded in trace minerals and natural iodine.

However cost versus benefit must always be considered. We use Kosher salt but possibly will switch to sea salt.

Spifflove, I agree with all your posts! Most people think my family is crazy for all the things we choose not to put into our bodies. I'm just thankful we can raise our own meat, eggs and dairy, grow our own garden and have spring water to drink. :)

Wow great set up! You are not crazy as attested by the existance of Trader Joe's and Whole foods. This is the one issue that me and my liberal parents agree on.

I get angry when I think of how municipalities essentially force us to be subjected to fluoride against our will, by adding it to the drinking water. Unless you have your own well (which could be contaminated with other pollutants in the ground) or use purified, bottled water for everything, you're at the mercy of other people's idea of what's "good" for us.
