Preparing for a blizzard, any advice

I am not a big fan of the snow, actually the only time I like it is if it snows on a Saturday or Sunday when I can make a pot of chicken-n-dumplings (of course out of extra roosters) or a pot of chili, pull back the curtains so I can watch it snow and watch a couple of good movies or football. This way I don't feel guilty about not doing anything except for the cooking. AAAAHHHH, that sounds so relaxing to me.

Last year at this time we had had an ice storm and lost part of our roof. I hear you. If you haven't made your last trip to the coop yet, leave some apples or other moist treats for your birds. Keeps them occupied while you're digging your way to them and they will stay fresh a long time.

Good luck, I imagine I'll be reporting on snowstorms soon, too!

ps- we invested in a generator last year. I sleep better because of it...

Luckily I am in eastern South Dakota and it is still 60 degrees here but it is coming whether we like it or not. Hopefully we won't get all the rain forcasted first. I would really hate another ice storm. They have been coming 10 years apart and it has only been 3 years since the last one. Unfortunately I have to work Thursday night and hope that I can make it home Friday morning cuz the poor dh won't check the chickens but the kidss will love to go out and check on them. Hope you make it through the storm.

We've had some of the rain already - its stopped now, but very cloudy and cold, not too much wind.

Its the wind I hate more than anything - I can handle the snow - and the coop is less than 100 yards from the garage. (I can always send the hubby out as well

We have a horse and goat to take care of as well - and its those buckets of water we have to carry that drive me nuts (I normally do the water - hubby does feed)

Not really, it has been unseasonably warm here lately. Still 60 degrees out now, but the rain and snow is coming soon. Hoping they miss us a little since we have a semifinal football game Saturday and the other team is coming from the NW corner of South Dakota with a 5 hour drive! Glad it is them and not us travelling (right through the storm's aftermath)!!!

sounds like the voice of experience.

Wow you got snow already! We haven't yet, well they say some rain had snow mixed in it a couple weeks ago. I really like this time of year when you get the first snow and everything is white and clean. The warmth has everything mixed up though, somebody at work said that his rose bushes were starting to bud again!

As long as we don't get the ice again. Hate trying to drive on that stuff.

I am not a big drinker but a hot totty (sp?) is the perfect thing when you have a bad cold or the flu and you want to get a good nights sleep. It taste a whole lot better than cough syrup (which has a lot of alchol in it) and you can sip and savor the flavor of the hot totty before going to bed.
