wow your is about like ours here

BLIZZARD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING...

A BLIZZARD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING.

RAIN IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP TONIGHT. AS TEMPERATURES COOL... THE RAIN SHOULD CHANGE TO SNOW FROM THE WEST THURSDAY MORNING. SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO FALL THURSDAY AFTERNOON INTO FRIDAY MORNING WITH 3 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION... WINDS OF 30 TO 45 MPH WILL DEVELOP. THE COMBINATION OF FALLING SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MAY REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO NEAR ZERO.

A BLIZZARD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FALLING AND/OR BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITIES. THIS CAN LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AND MAKE TRAVEL VERY DANGEROUS.

You're going to get more snow.

just one of those things, but on the bright side - I work at home, so I don't need to leave the house...

8 miles on a county road to the hwy and 4 miles to town then another 3 miles through town. Might I add that the town doesn't know how to plow the streets very well. More or less a traffic jam all over town. Oh yeah, working in a hospital during the storms isn't fun either. All the people come out just to see if they can make it. Me I would be staying home and warm.

I wish that was true. But usually around Hollween we start to expect it until after Easter.

A Blizards may not always have a lot of snow, but those drift really can be a bear. It appears that be the time that snow gets down here it may be just rain and light flurries.

From our experiance, with drifting snow it can be difficult to get out to the coops for food and water.

So we got heated waters to keep the water from freezing.
We fill up the feeders just as it starts to snow and blow.
We make sure we are stocked up on feed, or at lest enough for a couple of days.
Since we don't live in a town, and don't have any snow fence to put up. we set large object out so we can change where the snow drift show up. Of course most of the time they are where we don't want them.
We ran one set of extension cords to the coop, for the heated waterer and the coop heater.

It isn't bad here at all, but according to the weatherman, it will be coming. They have now changed us from a blizzard watch to a blizzard warning starting at 3pm today. I am hoping that it won't be too much so that I can work tonight and get home. I did see last night that the Black Hills have gotten 12.5 inches of snow already and parts of the interstate out there is closed. Hoping that we don't get that much.

... BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 12 PM CST FRIDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SIOUX FALLS HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WARNING... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 12 PM CST FRIDAY. THE BLIZZARD WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

RAIN IS EXPECTED TO QUICKLY CHANGE TO SNOW THIS AFTERNOON... BECOMING ALL SNOW AT CHAMBERLAIN AND GREGORY BY 300 PM CST... AND ALL SNOW AT HURON... MITCHELL AND LAKE ANDES BETWEEN 300 PM CST AND 500 PM CST. OCCASIONALLY HEAVY SNOW WILL COMBINE WITH NORTHWEST WINDS GUSTING TO AROUND 45 MPH TO PRODUCE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. EXPECT THE VISIBILITY TO DROP TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES THIS EVENING WITH STOPRM TOTAL SNOWFALL OF 4 TO 7 INCHES EXPECTED.

A BLIZZARD WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND POOR VISIBILITIES ARE LIKELY. THIS WILL LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS... MAKING TRAVEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. DO NOT TRAVEL. IF YOU MUST... HAVE A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT WITH YOU. IF YOU GET STRANDED... STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE.
