Preparing to set call and pekin duck eggs! Hatch day should be March 4, 2021 if all goes well!

For those of you that have had to wrap for angel wing, do you like wrapping the individual wing or going around the body? If I wrap the individual wing, does the wrapping need to be removed overnight? I am not having much success with wrapping Maggie. I tried wrapping her individual wing going by the thread here on BYC where the member (Victoria or something like that) had the post and made a video wrapping her now grown duck. I used some super self sticking vet wrap and just didn't have any luck with it. I tried wrapping around her body and she decided that she couldn't walk, even after I made sure her little legs were clear and free. I feel like I'm running out of time with her. She freaks out screaming and quacking like I'm trying to pull her wing off or something. I know that I need to just keep working past her fit, but so far, I've had no success. Also, I keep forgetting masking tape! Is there anything else I can use (if this was in the thread, I didn't read it in full, so my apologies). I should have done something before now but I kept hoping that it would resolve itself like Lylah's did. Once I tuck her wing, it stays there until she flaps and then she's unable to put it back properly. Her flockmates, Miley and Della, don't have this problem (although Miley does have the nictitating membrane issue) but they will nibble her stuck out wing whenever they get excited or are playing. Maggie screams and then they move on. I don't think her wing is injured. Yesterday I held her for over an hour and made sure her wing was tucked the entire time, but I guess it's not going to improve without further treatment.

@WVduckchick after reading about your thoughts/theory on AW, I thought I'd add that Maggie is a big girl. I thought she was a drake until she started quacking recently. Maggie was the smaller one between her and Miley at hatch, but she outgrew her. Maggie has always been very laid back and enjoys relaxing more than any other Call I've had. This also aligns with your information. I found this so incredibly interesting and unfortunately I hadn't heard of this until I went digging. Thank you for putting this information out there. It was so eye opening to read 😍
I like doing the individual wing and I have found vet wrap just will not stay on. I use straight medical tape. Leave it on for 24-48 hours then remove and see if it needs to be re wrapped. It's a bit slow going peeling it off but it's better than fighting it a million and one times because they get it off. I never got a full body wrap to work for me either. It either made it where she couldn't walk and made her too hot and was just miserable all the way around.
And if you think medical tape is a bad idea, my call duck book recommends duct tape!

If that's what you've used with success, I'm definitely up for trying it. I'll go with your way first and save the duct tape. Thank you so much. The vetwrap just isn't working. Maggie is just so heavily feathered. I feel like that may be some of the problem. Her flight feathers aren't even fully in, but this duck is just so full of silky feathers

And leaving it on several weeks! I wouldn't leave a wing wrapped that long.
Oh my goodness! I've been terrified to do this because of the one member that wrapped her ducks wing and it became infected (on one of the angel wing posts here)! That has really made me so hesitant to wrap. I can't imagine several weeks. I am so grateful for all of you wonderful folks here. Stuff like that makes me think about the poor babies that belong to those people that believe everything they read. Thank you again so much

I think just don't wrap it too tight and you'll be fine. You want it just tight enough to hold those flights under.. not so tight it's stressing the joint. That's another reason I prefer the tape. It's much easier to get it where you want it positioned without it slipping off every time you try to finish wrapping it.

I wrap the individual wing with a strip of Vet wrap and secure at both ends with medical tape.
I've been unable to get the normally extremely self sticking vetwrap to stick well enough, tight enough, while allowing me to go back under the other feathers. As soon as I apply any pressure, the vetwrap releases its grip. I work with vetwrap every day while wrapping Honey Boo Boo's foot and never have a problem unless it's a light sticking roll. I wonder if Maggie's oiled feathers could be the problem, especially since she's so heavily feathered. I will admit, the more I think about it, I'm probably not applying enough pressure to the layers of vetwrap to make them stick. Maggie's squeaking and quacking like I'm pulling her wing off make me extremely nervous so it's more than likely "user error". <I am such a soft hearted weakling 🥺 > Those bones are hollow and fragile though, right? I'm guessing y'all haven't had any need to try a chicken harness on a duck with AW, right? That's the one other thing I've read about, but I'm just not sure about how successful it is. I really need to just suck it up and get her wing wrapped up tonight. I'll probably wrap with the white medical tape tonight to be able to work faster and show her that I'm not trying to kill her and try the vet wrap again whenever I rewrap after 24 hours. Thank you both so much!

Have your pieces pre-cut and sticking on the edge of something close to you. That way you can just grab them fast as you need them.

I use one layer and only overlap the edges where it meets. You have to wrap pretty snug. Then immediately go around edges with tape.

For me and mine, I just couldn't ever work fast enough. The second I got the vet wrap on and went for the tape she would try to flap her wings and undo what I had just done.
I never seem to have help when I could use a second set of hands 🤣
