Preparing to set call and pekin duck eggs! Hatch day should be March 4, 2021 if all goes well!

Thank you so much for the link @FunnyfarmMidwest That was an awesome thread! My daughter and I scrolled through it in one sitting! The most memorable was Alice 😂 Erica said, "I don't want our ducks to go broody. That's funny but I'm scared of her." And that duckling with the gorgeous chocolate eyes 😍 I believe it was said that it's color was khaki. My my what beautiful eyes! - - - - - - - Of course my daughter's favorite was the butt names 😂😂😂 That was pretty hilarious!

I've also got a question if anyone has a moment to answer at any time. I've had Purina Flock Raiser Crumbles mixed with nutritional yeast available at all times. Some in its normal dry state and some moistened with water for a mash. Is it necessary to have mash available? They all LOVE the mash but it's making things even more messy than they already are. They get some in their bills and shake their cute little heads nearly every time. There is mash EVERYWHERE. If they need it, that's fine. I've got to clean up anyway. If not, I'll offer it as a treat, with wall protection.
Also, do call Ducks need the same temp amounts as standard size ducks? They stopped using the heat plate fairly soon so I had to offer a heat lamp. Now I find them moving further and further away even though I'm raising it anytime their found moved away from it. It's not a 250w bulb but a reptile lamp so it's not a hot bulb at all. Last year I found the 250w bulb was too warm for chicks so I didn't bring it out for ducks.
Those pictures are so helpful. @WVduckchick and @Conan how long on average do you find that you hold the duckling in this position for it to hopefully work without wrapping? Layla is a crazy busy duck that rarely sits still. Maybe after a bath and preening/drying, this will happen. I'm hopeful. I'd like to take them outside today unless anyone thinks it's a bad idea. Temps should be in the mid to high 70's, at least. They are feathering in really well. I'd say about 75-80% but I am TERRIBLE at estimating. Fuzzy heads and necks with feathers coming in all over. They're 4 weeks old now. Doesn't seem like it!

I don't give my ducks mash, so I don't think it's necessary at all.

I never feed mash unless I have a weak one I'm trying to encourage to eat. But I don't continue to make it. They make their own mash dropping half their mouthful of feed in the water dish. 🤣

I have never offered mash to my ducks. I find that they're so gross that they make their own. Lol.

I use all flock raiser crumble for all my birds, with nothing added as it contains all nutrients required (including niacin).

I have brooded call ducklings outside in a coop with no heat after 2 weeks, and they do just fine provided there are enough of them to cuddle together. I even had a heat pad for them, and they stayed as far away from it as they could.

Regarding the wing thing. I would sit with Yoshimi for about 30 minutes or however long she would let me a couple times a day. I only did that for a few days, and the feathers corrected.

This is so relieving! They'll still make an ample mess for me, without a doubt, but the lack of the extra pre-made mess (aka mash) that might make a teeny difference. It's near impossible to tell what's mash and what's 💩. I oftentimes wonder if they can tell 🤮

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts with me. I truly appreciate it!

I'll start working on Lylah's wings this evening.

They eat EVERYTHING they come upon while outside! I put some grit out but they're not fans. They seem to really enjoy the great outdoors. Faith kept a close eye on a Yellow Warbler that watched them from the powerline. I'm not sure if the others paid much attention to it. They were more concerned with the noises coming from ground level. The visiting Canada Geese heard us and came over to check things out (looking for more food) but before they got close I led them to the back yard with more food.

What sweeties! They look so grown up! They’re truly gorgeous! Have you figured out the genders yet? They certainly grow up way too fast, don’t they? Well except for Bobbles! :p

Thank you so much! They certainly bring so much joy to me. Unfortunately I still don't know their genders. Faith is still a lot more petite. Her feet are also little, but they all have small feet except for #1 Paisley. Paisley is super laid back and just such an easy duckling. I'm feeling like maybe Paisley is a Drake. I have no idea on the others. Their voices are beginning to sound a bit more "duck" like (not necessarily duck or Drake though), so I suspect they will be quacking or not within the next few weeks. They do still peep, but occasionally they'll sound different. I could have sworn that I heard one loud outright quack 2 days ago but I was in the next room and of course there's a chance I was mistaken. I'm so impatient!!! If you or anyone sees any clues, please let me know. Layla had me thinking Drake until I looked at pictures of others with darker heads and even shaw's white neck ring duck! So, I guess I'll be in suspense a bit longer

How is that adorable Bobbles? What about your other ducklings? Are you incubating anymore or have any other broodies?
