Pretty Boy got eaten :(

The turkey won't be any match for a fox or coyote. Could it be an owl? Your trap won't catch that (the only reason I ask is, a friend of mine went out to her barn one night to lock up her birds and an owl flew in the door right over her head). I still think that securing your barn for the night is the best way to keep the chickens from getting eaten. You might catch whatever has nabbed the three you mentioned, but with an open door, you're inviting all kinds of other predators, too - more coyotes, fox, coons, possums, owls, stray dogs, mink.... the list goes on. Birds can't defend themselves at night.

A guard turkey?

And this is why either the barn door needs to be shut by someone who isn't your cousin if he's out too late at night to get it done, or you need to put them in their pen at night. If you don't, Fluffy very well could be next. I'm sorry for your losses, but you have to know that they will continue if something isn't done to keep them safe at night. If the turkey scares you, bring a broom or something out with you so you can protect yourself from him. For those who are thinking of jumping on me because of that statement, I don't mean to beat the snot out of the thing. Just use it to push the tom back or discourage him from pecking, flogging, or whatever it is he does.

So sorry for your loss!

Do you mean Canfield Ohio? If you want some eggs to hatch I could give you some.My roo,Jack Sparrow, is *awesome* and I keep saying we need to hatch his offspring before the hawk eats him.E me if you want to come get some eggs once you get your predator taken care of.

I keepy my 1089 havahart trap set every day now and have caught something every day!
