I would make sure the black hens were excellent show quality and type! The Lavender project is getting closer.

Why would anyone bid so high though?

Years ago my father and I went to a tractor auction in Idabel, Oklahoma. A very nice condition Yanmar 24HP tractor came in. Had excellent paint and rubber. Dad bought it for about $1500. A few tractors later a 24 HP John Deere came in...being pulled! It had one blown tire, poor rubber elsewhere and would not start. It sold for about $8500! The John Deere had a plate on its block that read: Manufactured by Yanmar Diesel Engine Company, Osaka Japan. The tractors were identical except the color. Expensive green paint.

Point being, not the breeder, but the bidders: Why pay $300 for ten eggs? The breeder started the auction at $0.99.

The relisted auction on the Lavender Orpingtons has now reached $222.50 with 5h 18m left to the auction. Am wondering how bad these bidders want these eggs. What will the final sell price be?

I so agree with Jody, it really is a shame that some poor soul is going to think these are really Orpingtons and trust me I have raised standard Orps now for a few years and these Lavenders have good way to go as Jody states. She is way ahead of any of us that have been blessed to have started this project from her Lavs.

I did contact this seller and he stated he thought and "thinks" they were good enough to call Orps. Anyone that had gotten eggs from my Split Black Lavenders or my Lavender pen as in a cockerel know that they are a PROJECT in the making and it will take them a few years and lots of patience when culling and re-vamping back to good Black Orpington stock.

Thumbs up Jody for speaking up!

I would guess that the only way to educate the ebay crowd would be to run auctions of "better" project orps, and explain and illustrate the difference. Start your auctions at $.99 too. Only person on here that can honestly do that at this point is hinkjc poultry. Would you please auction some of your project eggs on there and set the bidders on ebay straight?

I really think that is the only way to show the difference to the buying public in real time, time enough to save them from themselves.

Thanks for our start and we continue to work on our projects!

Yes, thank you very much! I have asked the seller of these several questions and he/she says that they are breeding the parents to offspring to "inject new blood" into the flock. This person does not understand that if you breed a project bird to a project bird, they just don't spontaneously reach better conformation with each generation. They need improvement from an outside source. Don't try to explain it to him though because he gets defensive. It will come back to haunt him once people start growing out the birds and see what they paid for.

From what I've heard from the Hinks is that their Lavenders are being "revamped" and they won't have any for sale for a while. But when they do, I'm sure they will be fantastic!
