Prices of birds...aka stealing from 4H members

Quote:
There's a thought:

You, "A trio for $20."

Wanna be Purchaser, "I'll give you $10."

You, "Sure, $10 apiece it is; that's $30 altogether."

Wanna Be, "No, I meant all of them."

You, "Well, I'll sell you this one for $10." (and gesture to the poorest quality of the trio, or perhaps a different, lower quality bird.)

Yeah good choice in not selling to him, sounds like he doesnt care about the welfare of his birds. If i had birds dying i would never sell them, i would want to make sure i made them better myself instead of chancing it with someone else. A rare bird (and im a buckeye lover) or not, your helping kids and yourself grow and pay the bills, hes way to cheap to notice that.
i dont know why people need to pinch every penny from a private independent seller either

In 1982 I paid $15.00 for a trio of really nice Old English Rose comb banties. Paid $20.00 for a trio of white Japanese Silkies. Today I expect to pay more but I guess inflation has, as usual, left the farmer behind.

Acually I will try and get a better price at chain store if the item has been opened or has a flaw ect ect...

I guess I will haggle a bit. But not with a 4H member. Once a price is set. Plus $20 for a trio of of any Bantams is more than fair. Especially if it is helping a youth.

I haggle sometimes - - - - only when I actually think the price is high or if I plan on buying a large quantity.

I've haggled at our farmers market and yes - - - - even at walmart. For example, if the item is damaged I will ask for a discount

I am looking at purchasing a travel trailer now. I have researched prices on NADA and if somebody asks too much above the AVERAGE used retail, I do ask if they can come down.

OK - - - so what I am trying to say is sometimes things are over priced and should come down. I am always polite when I ask.
If the answer is "NO", then I have to decide how bad I want that item . . . .

HOWEVER, some people are JERKS and haggle just because they enjoy it and they aren't happy
with the transaction unless they have haggled. How about at a yard sale when you have .50 on a pair of jeans and somebody trys to offer you a nickle. OMG, are they kidding. These people aren't trying to buy something, that want somebody to GIVE them something !

So far, I have never haggled over the price of a chicken ! I've paid between $2 and $15 a chick depending on quality, type and age.

I do ask people if they will take less, but I do it politely. If they say no, I respect it and decide how much I want the item/bird. I've never haggled with a child, though, and never at a store.

Would I demean myself by trying to bargain a child out of a few dollars?
No.

Quite the opposite, I'm afraid. I would gladly pay the price and may
even overpay, depending on how knowledgeable the child is and the
effort they have put forth.

Everything isn't about money.

On the other hand, when I have a car or such for sale...I may or may not
be willing to deal. Either way I won't waste a lot of time doing it.

Small items...I'm more apt to give them away. Especially if they appear to
be going to a child, or a family in need.
