Prices of birds...aka stealing from 4H members

I have bought nice 4H birds before. No I did not ask them to come down in price. One because I really wanted the birds and two the money was the childs only way to getting more birds to show in the future. This young man was so polite and really knew his birds. It can at times pay off. His father stopped in where I work one day and offered all the banties to me for free. Of course I took them and the ones I could not keep did the same thing offered them to someone who might want them free also. I still have 2 of the d'uccle hens. I always believe in good Karma.

Is there really any question that people will haggle over the price of livestock? 10,000 years of farm animal sales says this tradition will not go away. Auctions don't start at the selling price and go up. They start low and go up to the selling price, because the buyers are running the pricing, not the sellers. It might be annoying to haggle, but you have all the control. If the person doesn't want to get up to the right price, you can say no.

Just be glad you don't still have to spit on your palm, when you make a deal. Eeew.

Auctions are a blast. Love them...be it a car auction, stock sales, estate...
I enjoy a good auction.

But this was a private sale. Not an auction. Rules are different.

Haggling price is not stealing from anyone, they have the choice to decide what they are willing to settle for in the end.

It's all part of the game

Most people ask more than they want in order to haggle down to their intended price to allow the buyer to feel they have got what they wanted at the price they wanted to pay.

In short, if you are going to play the game, then learn the rules ;O)

yep...... or I'll say, You know, I just remembered I paid a lot more for those birds, so if you're not going to buy them that's fine, I need to go change the price on my ad. Or if they are really being difficult, say bird is $20, they ask $10, I say $25 they say hun? I thought you said $20, I say yes but if we are haggling I'm haggling up not down.....

So many people are trying to buy birds to re sell.I normally don't sell birds to anyone that I dont know.When I do sell a few I don't haggle.If they want them they will pay what I am asking or they wont get them.

Agree , now no I would n't haggle a kid down on the price....but love it when they start haggling with me on my birds....yes I alway drop the price for them.

I remember one time selling a pool table, just need the room, I price it at 75.00 the guy started telling me of all the little marks on it ,trying to get it cheaper. He offer 50.00 so i raise the price to 100.00 he then said he would give me the 75.00. He had already made me mad, heck it was worth a heck of lot more...so told him no, the price is now 100.00.......​

It's amazing how many things I own that can do that.

Lol, yep.... but... if someone comes to get birds and sees one they really like but can't buy all of them or i can tell they really want something but may not have enough.... or depending on the person I will mark it down or give it to them etc... it all just depends on the person. If it's someone who will truly appreciate the breed and care for the animal I am happy to, that is how I got started in a lot of breeds, from someone elses kindness.
