Privileged parking for fuel-efficient cars?

My understanding...

July 8, 2008 Washington exempted WVO... But the fed still to still be able to charge anyone using it with tax evasion. Federal law seems to be whats behind... 100+ years behind... Not that 2008 was fast. In 1893 the diesel was invented to run on peanut oil that farmers could make there self...

If it was a Ga issue it would be one thing but Georgia seems to just over look it. Alabama is the state that is out to get people then turn them over to the feds... Though I drive more in Al than Ga I have no say when it comes to there laws. That's where I see the most reports of charges... Not sure I know of any in Ga.

Did find a tax incentive in Ga for alternate fuels.

It is the right of every citizen of The United States to be a bigot. Said right is protected by the Constitution. It's only when you act on your bigotry that it becomes illegal. Having said that I do object to laws, which are supposed to provide "equal protection for all" that favor any one group over another.

hybrids are not all that environmentally friendly. There batteries only last aprox 5-10 years depending on driving habits. Look up the prius plant for toyota the area around the plant is dead for miles where they make the batteries whats that doing for the environment. I say go diesel.. I drive an 30 year old chevy diesel and get 20-22 on the highway and my truck weighs close to 4000 lbs. Ford Claims there trucks are fuel efficient they get- 14-19mpg on the highway and there brand new. They should be giving special privileges to people that park bikes not hybrids. I Swear some of thinks we reward is so menial. The only reason hybrids are big here is because the oil co. are involved in the battery process. Meanwhile Europe has had diesel cars and truck they kill the mpg on most hybrids for years...
sorry I needed to rant.
But the us car companies wont bring the diesel cars here hmmm conspiracy

Oh Boy, let us just assume that the "green tree huggers" are responsible for every problem known to man. At least that assumption should be so patently foolish that a discussion of reality is possible. First, it should be noted that wind power has just about reached grid parity with coal; meaning that production of energy with wind is about as cost effective as that with coal. Certainly as technologies increase, other sources of power generation will become more feasible also. The statement that electric is going the way of the Edsel may be something that is possible so many years into the future, that it is really just wrong. I guess it is possible for Superman to come and teach us a new form of energy, but it is not in any foreseeable future.

It is very possible for everyone in the country to use electric powered cars and there will be enough electric power to supply them. We have the technology for that right now but it is not possible with today's outdated electric grid. It would be more then possible with the conversion to a smart grid approach for electric consumption and new technologies for storing excess electric power. Our electric grid is outdated and the last major demand for increase elctric power came when people began use air conditioning. At that time it took a major renovation to the electric grid to accomodate that increase. The conversion to electric cars will not only be possible, but really beneficial and then afterwards we can make an overall plan to kill and maim all of those tree hugger bad people. But let's not do it right now becaue they have some good ideas. It should also be remembered that when and if we have a large amout of electric cars it would be more likely that most would charge them overnight when general demand for electric consumtion is at its lowest.

What we really need to worry about is not electric power but water shortages.

Where does electric come from?? how do electric plants make electric ? fossil fuel.... So in reality if we converted everyone to electric cars we would still be at the demand of the oil mongers who would just jack up the price of oil to get there money. electric would get more expensive and to be real the electric car has a long way to go since most of the affordable ones can only go around 60-80nmiles before charge!

JD, respectfully, you are really off the mark in both of your posts and a complete response would take too long and probably get the mods angry. In short, not all electric is made by burning fossil fuel. I will leave it to your google prowess to figure that out. Second, the burning of diesel fuel is dirty. You do not need to believe in the damages caused by global warming, just look at pictures of the major cities with big smog problems. Third, as the technology for electric gets better so will the batteries and the ability to re-use. That part is a given. And lastly, I just love all the conspiracies that our government is supposedly involved in.

For a second there I thought you was talking to me. With all due respect Capvin the newest diesel powered cars are required to have more stringent emission standards than their gasoline counterparts just to get EPA certification to be sold in the U.S., BIN 4 TIER 5 to be exact. The new Volkswagen TDIs and new Mazda Skyactive diesels are now so clean that if you were to drive it Los Angeles the exhaust would be cleaner than what is going into the intake. Couple that with new fuel technology that converts coal to diesel while removing up to 30% of CO2 before it is even burned, add 10% volume in bio-diesel for lubricity equal to 1500 ppm diesel, you have the first no-sulphur diesel ever while further reducing NOX generation during combustion. Oops, sorry for going all nerdy there.

JD4570...I could not have been addressing you because it is well known that you have not been wrong since the time you called Em a bad name and ever since your performance has been nothing short of phenominal; wimpy, but phenominal nonetheless. And, of course you are right about the clean diesel engines that are on some new cars. However, as you know and skillfully hid, it is not the CO2 that is the problem with the diesels but NOX because it is the NOX that creates the smog. They have done well but the problem has been that the more they control the NOX the worse the overall performance. Also, if you take all diesels as a whole as they are today, they are not a better option then regular gas engines and I do not believe that they will ever be a better option then a technologically developed electric. The problem is that electric has a long way to go and, in truth, by the time the electric vehicle is really ready in terms of performance and the ability to go all day, the diesel engines and gas engines will also have been improved. The competition is good because it makes them all better over time.

Yeah, NOX has been the real problem but is tied to sulfur content. Another problem is that diesel fuel has so many BTUs that the exhaust valves have to be slightly open to keep the pistons from burying themselves a foot in the ground! So they are only limited to about 42% thermal efficiency. That's why there is a big push towards new rotary types exceeding 90% efficiency. By the way I didn't call Em a bad name, that was Spook. I threatened to spank her publicly, then someone pointed out that wouldn't be a good idea, so I said I wouldn't humiliate her by spanking her publicly. Then I realized what I said and slunk away red-faced while she laughed herself silly.
