I want to be cremated and whichever one of the kids wants me on their fireplace mantle is fine with me. If they want, they can split me three ways and each one have a piece of me. We talk about this frequently. In my husband's country, Colombia, you bury your dead, then 7 years later you dig 'em up, and the bones are put into a niche in the church with a bronze plaque. I also wouldn't mind this, but have my bones put into a fancy box and sit in one of my children's houses in a place of honor. We are pretty macabre in my house.

I'll have to agree with Route 66 - I've always believed in feeding others, can't think of a better farewell.

ANything that can be used should be used. ANything not donateable should go to science for them to use. After that they return the body to the family (what's left) I want to be cremated and thrown out or posted in the woods on a platform to be eaten. (against the law here by the way - I checked)

BUT< my sister is appalled by my ideas and wants to have a funeral and all the trappings. SO my will and everything says if she is still alive, after the donation of organs she can bury me.....

I won't be there and won't care so she can do what makes her feel better..... DH doesn't care either way, so it'll stay that way until the kids are older and have an opinion.

when we were teenaers, we talked about this more than we do now..

we used to say, just bury me in blue jeans and a shirt..

Well., a few months ago, one of our group died..(age 66) Jack had his funeral planned.. he was in his casket with his favorite baseball cap, blue jeans and plaid shirt with a fishing vest on.. two fishing magazines and a bottle of beer in his hand..
In the background was quietly and respectfully music playing..(Polkas)

there were the tears and the proper amount of sadness, but all in all it made it easier on everyone there..

I am not Native American, but I would not mind a Native American type funeral...

I have been to enough funerals this past year and planned one (my MIL) that I am pretty sure what I want.

I want a DVD of my life made and set to my favorite songs. We did this for my MIL, it takes an hour for every minute to produce, but it is awesome. We just watched the DVD the other day. The kids get to remember Grandma Jeanie for as long as they live and the little ones won't forget her either.

We also took most of the photos and put them on foam board and put them around the funeral home. People enjoy looking at the photos. Gives them something to do at a funeral home.

If body parts can be donated to help another live, that would be great...I wouldn't need them anymore!

A short and sweet funeral. My hubby would need help raising the 5 kids if it happened any time soon. So hopefully family and friends would be able to step up to the plate and help.

Anyways, the best thing is to write everything down on what you want so your family knows your wishes.
