Probably owl problem

Camp out on porch and listen. You will learn a lot. Have a flashlite ready. Do not be afraid to lock up roost location at night. If birds not changing roost site, then attacks not likely occuring in darkness.

I thought hawks hunted in early morning.... screaming to get the mice to pee that glows to the sight of the hawks.

I generally see them in the early evening, but that is when I am outside just settin.

Those are kestrels. All of them including kestrels hunt any time as long as there's enough light for them to see. Various attacks and attempts were observed any time from very early morning all way to past sun set, not yet nightfall.
