Amhy,
If it is the lactose that your daughter has issues with, she maybe able to ingest the kefir as the culture eats lactose to grow.
Ginny

Unfortunately, it's not a lactose intolerance, it's a milk protein allergy. She can't ingest anything that contains milk proteins. She seems to be growing out of it gradually, thank goodness!! There was a time where she would go into anaphylactic shock if she ingested milk products, and now she just gets a rash on her where the milk (yogurt, chocolate, anything containing milk) touches her skin.

Water kefir will work for her and actually I had someone PM me for a trade on Kombucha for water kefir, so it's perfect!! Although, I'd still love some milk kefir, so if anyone wants to trade either a Kombucha scoby or water kefir grains in the next few weeks, please let me know!! I hope that I will have plenty soon!!

sorry to hear that she is so allergic to milk proteins.. That must really stink. Milk is in everything! Do people with milk allergies? If so, I hope she does,

We think she will outgrow it. Thank goodness.

It seemed like a real hassle at first, because you're right, milk is in EVERYTHING!! I was trying to read labels on everything and figure out what I could feed her. After a while, I stopped reading labels and just started to make everything from scratch. I try to buy only whole foods and then make anything we might want. I think her allergy was God's way of showing me the light. The processed foods most families are eating are full of so many preservatives and nasties that there is no way my children should be eating it anyway!! I am thankful for everything we have gone through because we are eating so much more healthfully.

I started with a large garden, then the chickens, now our probiotics and I'm putting in fruit trees and such this summer. I bake, can, cook and do everything I can to make sure my children are healthy. I am in love with this lifestyle and can't wait until the children are a bit older and can pitch in and we can really make this a mini farm.

Amy,

I just checked out your website. Cool stuff. I sew too, but don't have a lot of time. I was just thinking that maybe you could also market hen saddles (aprons) They are easy to sew, but so many people don't do it any more. Any way, just a thought.......
I kept telling people that I don't have a farm. But the large garden, 3 horses and 9 chickens (a dog and 2 cats), I guess to many, it is a mini farm. I hope someday you can realize your dream!
