PROBIOTICS for you and your chickens

Hi FT
The Mushrooms are all the same and have basically the same probiotic effect! The tea that you make it in depends on the flavor and appearance of the mushroom or so I have found! Also time that it is cultured has a big effect on the effervesence and quailty of the tea! Ok the size of the culture does not really matter as the mushroom will take up the size (Diameter of the container used) Thickness varies from a quarter inch to I had one that was triple layered Don't know how that happened but it did! I would be leary of the ebay ones as someone I know did not have a good experience with the Kefir they got from there!!
Someone on here might have a culture that they would send you fro the price of shipping possibly! I would try but I don't have the shipping on the Kombucha figured out yet~~

How do we go about requesting they make this a "sticky" thread?

I shared my first "starter" with a friend today. Mine are growing like crazy and I won't miss the ones I put in her jar with some milk. She was very happy to get it.

Excellent Sandi! I am so glad that yours are growing so nicely! Kiki is a Healthy little girl and will produce many more starts!

After taking out Several starts for all I still have an overabundance of Kiki's sisters that I need to seperate off!! They have really taken a growing spree recently!!

Feed Me Ernie Feed me NOW!!!!! I NEED TO GROW!!! HaHaHA

I am not sure if this has been answered or not (sorry, I am trying to get it all read and the website that Joe referred us to)

Will the heat from cooking with the Kefir milk kill the probiotics? I was reading that some make pancakes with it so I am wondering if all the health benefits are lost through heating, even though you still have the flavor.

Kombucha mushrooms are very easy to grow yourself!! That's how I got my first mushroom. I bought a $4 bottle of plain Kombucha tea and poured it in a mason jar with a kitchen cloth as a cover with an elastic. I let it sit for about a month (it would probably take less time in the Summer) until the mushroom was nice and thick and then started using it! It works great and has multiplied.

Best bet is to buy a bottle of tea with lots of solid pcs in it. Just look at the bottom and shake it up a bit. If there are solid pcs then that means a mushroom is already growing.

Good luck!!

Yes. However, using kefir to soak the flour predigests it, neutralizing the phytates and enzyme inhibitors present, so that the flour's nutrients can be absorbed by the body.

OK all
