There are 2 more red bumps on the roo's foot. So I think those thing are coming to the surface, and I will know where they are. I made a sauce of Epsom salt gel and iodine and just squished his foot in it and wrapped it.

Have you tried this stuff
Duramycin-10 Tetracycline Hydrochloride soluble powder.
A poster called "bird nut" used it to make a paste, slathered the effected foot and held the bird for 15 min or so before washing the paste off. Did it nightly until the bumble foot was gone. Said he saw results the first night.
Sorry can't re-find it or I'd link you to it. I have it all copy and pasted in one of my posts though if you'd like to see it.

Very interesting.

My friend did provide some scientific research papers as well (she has access to them and understand how to read them properly) which I need to pour over and try not to pull my hair out.

It seems as if at this time, everything I am reading suggests that:
1) MDV is detectable in blood samples via PCR in actively infected chickens 100% of the time ( http://jcm.asm.org/content/41/6/2428.full )
2) MDV may not be detected in blood samples via PCR in latently infected chickens 100% of the time.


I will try to do some more research to see.

Thanks for the advice. This morning I decided that I wasn't going to cut into his foot anymore. His weight was below 2 lbs. I took him to the vet and had him euthanized. I believe he was wasting from suspected Marek's, I just felt like I was torturing the poor guy before he dies anyway and I couldn't leave him in pain. The vet was very nice.

Yes it's the Diseases of Poultry edited by Saif. It seems to me that the book has recent information , considering all the stuff you read about Marek's can be 50-60-70 years old. Seems like they invented the vaccine, but not much new information.

I would really like to think that exposure would lead to a positive PCR.
Did you understand from those pages that diagnosing Marek's has 3 steps? Physical, positive PCR, and something else?

You did more than anyone could have...to make him as comfortable as possible, sadly the outcome was not as hoped...so very sorry that you had to make the hard but right decision to have him euthanased...it s so very hard to admit when the situation is such that we cannot do more to help them ourselves but even more painful to see them suffer...

I mourn your loss with you as everyone else that has read this thread will do too...
