Problem w/Pullet-Shut Automatic Chicken Door *Update* Problem no more!

Frankly I'd never make a snap judgement about a company or product based on a few highly negative reviews by two newbie (1 post!) accounts scattered among so many positive experience posts. Frankly I always "throw out" the extremely over-the-top highly praising reviews and the most negative, complaining reviews whenever I check out any product. Then I based my decision on what's left in the middle. It's kind of like in the Olympics when they'd throw out the top and bottom scores to come to a realistic and fair score. So, hopefully people aren't listening to these negative ravings which, by the way, I agree sound very suspiciously like a competitor!

Right on both accounts...gee I hope I'm not being over the top positive! :) it's just so rare to find exactly what you're looking for, and made in America too...that I have to open my mouth and praise it. So when I hear some weird comments that sound like a lie I gotta jump in there. You know what they say, silence gives aggrement...negativity is harmful...so it needs to be called out when you encounter it. Not trying for an argument anyway, anyhow, just the facts :)

I have had mine for nearly two years. It has been nothing but problems. It was replaced one time and the replacement was faulty as well. I also have three other pop door brands that work without a glitch. We finally moved the PulletShut door to the coop closest to the house so we can check it constantly to make sure it opened/closed. There is just no rhyme or reason to the problems. It just doesn't work well and we fuss with it constantly, plugging, unplugging, replacing the battery, re-programing, etc. I hope to replace it soon with a reliable Foy's door.

Interesting! I am still going to order a second door...one thing I did was make sure the battery was fully charged, even though I was anxious to try it out...I didn't even test it first, just charged it. But I noticed rob ludlow endorsed it, and alot of other byc people, so that was good enough for me. Sorry to hear about your problems. I really liked the whole solar/sensor thing.

I love the door and seems to be very well built with pretty much all metal constuction and very little plastic or wood like most others. I did alot of research and the standard way of opening and the sealed controls was nice. It installed very easily and works smoothly. There are lemons in everything but I they sound like a very stand-up kind of company and American built!

I'm ordering my Pullet Shut door today (solar power, photo eye). What are the magnets for????? I see the option to buy 4 extra ones.... But don't see any mention of them anywhere on the web site - or maybe I just overlooked it...

The magnets are used for programming it. You can see on "You Tube" how they are used. I just got the door, battery, solar panel and 4 extra magnets last week and it has worked great. Report back what you think.

Yep, I love mine, too. This is the first time I've ever done anything like this, and it was a cinch. My girls love it, too.

I just ordered the extra magnets (in case I lose one), so I can keep one at the coop. I have the solar set up, too, and it's working great. Our light is changing, so I'm watching when things close up. So far, all is well with the change in seasons.

I will say that I checked the reviews on this site, as well as other places, and this door seemed to be the best made one. Plus, I loved the demo on their site. A friend asked me if it would work on a greenhouse as a vent--I suppose it would; just cover the opening with screening.

Happy chickens, great eggs, what else could one want.
