Hi,
I have a trio of geese for breeding, they are about 11 months old now, two female toulouse and a white male.
For the last couple of weeks, one of my females has had a limp, I just thought that the male had been a little over zelous, or she had caught her leg getting out of their bath.
It improved last week, she was moving around, limping less, but a little slower than normal, and resting more. Yesterday morning she was moving around, and then in the afternoon, she couldn't walk. She literally just couldnt stand up at all, in trying she was writhing around on the floor, at one point, I thought she was actually dying.
I went into the run and retrieved her, the other 2 would not let me near her to start with, picked her up, and bought her down into a shed we have, on straw, with food and water, which she is eating and drinking quite happily.
I have checked her leg for hock tendon slippage, or bruising and breaks, but there is nothing.
When you pick her up, she moves both of her legs without a problem, she just cannot seem to stand.
I have filled up a childrens sandpit with water, and in their she is moving her legs about, stretching them both out behind her, and pulling them back in.
She is bright and alert, she just can't walk, or stand up.
She is out on grass all day, and gets goose pellet and wheat for feed. (I live in france, goose pellet is just that!), but she, as well as the other two just graze on the grass all day!
She does seem to have lost her 'leg sacks' as well.
Her poo is normal, I can't feel a blockage, and I am pretty sure she isn't egg bound, her laying has slowed down, she was just starting to sit on a clutch.
She has been laying, I have just hatched out 4 of her chicks in the incubator, and have another 6 due in the next two weeks, the 4 that hatched were all healthy and happy, and are now causing mayhem in their gosling run!
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?
