I'm interested in mule ducks and I was wondering how difficult it is to breed/hatch them. I have a muscovy drake and pekin, rouen, mallard, and buff females. If any of you have done this before, or have mule ducks, any info would be great. I plan on keeping the drake with the mallard derived hens and away from the mallard derived drakes until they breed. Also, are there any complications that mule ducks commonly have? I know a few of you on here have them and I'm not able to find much info elsewhere.

I baught them last year and the lady seid the hatch rate is low like 65 to 70 percent

The mallard male wouldve been mating them by now ide think, So they might already be fertilized by him, I think they stay fertilized for 2 weeks or more, Ide do research on that

And some muscovy drakes are massive in comparison to some mallard derived ducks so ide watch that he doesnt beat the hens up too bad

Moulards are cute tho!

Yes! Same plan over here for next year, only we are sticking with just Pekin hens and using our cull drake from the Muscovy flock. So I don't have direct experience but I have talked to a local [accidental] breeder and she said she didn't have the fertility problem that most people complain about. You might try keeping your hen:drake ratio a little lower than you would with just Muscovies to get maximum copulation, but making sure the drakes killing the hens or each other.

But that's just speculation. :idunno I'm excited to see what people's experience has been.

We just had unexpected mule ducks we were supposed to have just swedish ducklings but our rescue liked our swedish ducks I guess. Our swedish drake is very mad.
