How exciting. Just too bad they have to be away from you for a while. Double check with the people at the farm. Are the turtles snapping turtles? If so they may be more of a problem than you expect...even with large birds like geese. The last thing you need is to have another loss. They may be safer where you are with a little pool to dip in now and then rather the risk a snapping turtle coming up under one in the pond and biting. Also, do a walk around at your place, put your mind in the "I am a curious goose" mode and find all the places and things that might be a risk and either get rid of them or cover them. You may have already done this but it never hurts to do it again now and then. I always thought that my geese were safe the way they are penned but after what may or may not have happened to Pearl I did a walk through and they could get their heads through the fence into the yard where the dogs are which could be a really bad problem. So, now that area is also covered with 1/4 fence fabric. Good luck with the new girl...post pictures when you can.It looks like I'm going to get a Toulouse female this weekend then move her and Kiwi to the farm. There's a pond there and lots of cows, no predators other than big turtles but I don't think they would go after full grown geese. It's too risky to keep them at my place until my pit bull gets taken away, then they'll have a fence to stay in. This is heartbreaking.
