We had a flock of wild geese migrate over us yesterday...really pretty, grey/brown bodies, long necks darker brown (maybe black) heads. My poor three just look up and watched with that "how do they do that" look in their eyes.

LOL same here, we have a flock that flies over morn and eve since we live along the river and it's so funny to watch the geese especially look up and watch. It sure is a pretty sight though. Just about time for them to head south, I always hate to see them go.We had a flock of wild geese migrate over us yesterday...really pretty, grey/brown bodies, long necks darker brown (maybe black) heads. Not yet but they are welcome if they want to. There is a large pond (tank) across from us that had a visiting flock of Egrets for a few days last week and we have several hundred Scissor Tail Flycatchers, Western Blue Birds and some sort of Thrush in our trees now. Our Purple Martens have left for the season but they will be back to their birth nest in the spring.LOL same here, we have a flock that flies over morn and eve since we live along the river and it's so funny to watch the geese especially look up and watch. Ever had any stop over?
How old are they now? and at what age did they start mating? Beautiful geese too.Not yet but they are welcome if they want to. Here are my three (since I am new to this thread) they are Lydia, Pauline and Sting (left to right)
Sting and Lydia have been mating (early as it is) but I think that is dry run for the actual mating season. Hopefully we will have a gosling or two but it will be their first year so we may not. Like all the above post. They are wonderful and fun and friendly except to my ducks.
Hatched out March 5, 2014 so they are just 7 months old. They just started mating this past month. I suppose if they stick to schedule and wait until December or so for any really serious mating we could have a gosling or two but that would only be if we were very lucky. I suspect the eggs would just be too small this first time around. How old are they now? and at what age did they start mating? Beautiful geese too.
Look at livininbrazils yearlings hatching eggs though, so it can be done. Most say wait till 2nd year but if they want to sit and you have the space then why not let them try.Hatched out March 5, 2014 so they are just 7 months old. They just started mating this past month. Nice! What wild geese are they in Texas and N.C.? Canadas?LOL same here, we have a flock that flies over morn and eve since we live along the river and it's so funny to watch the geese especially look up and watch. It sure is a pretty sight though. Not that I wanted to breed them, but they really were broody, so I just left them with a couple of their bigger little eggs as I didn´t want them to keep laying, and even though some of them died in the egg and some were infertile, two made it out.Look at livininbrazils yearlings hatching eggs though, so it can be done. Canada's here in NC. probably in Texas too. other than I think Snow geese come down into the lower 48 in winter but not here in the mountains.Nice! What wild geese are they in Texas and N.C.? Canadas?

Based on pictures I see online they were Canada Geese but I don't know if they migrate this far south. I think there are migratory bird sanctuaries south of us close to the Gulf and we are not far from the Colorado river. I do wish we had enough water on our property to invite a overnighter though. I would just sit in my dining room and stare out at them all night.Canada's here in NC. probably in Texas too. other than I think Snow geese come down into the lower 48 in winter but not here in the mountains.
