PRODUCTION Toulouse Geese Thread!!

We have Canada geese all over Tennesse. Pear just watches them fly above her. Sad! We must have ordered some of the last geese from Cackle because Pear is only four months old and everyone else's geese this year are 6-9!
Miss Lydia´s are 4 months old too. Between us on these threads we´re keeping the gozzies going year-round! My older ones this year are now 5 weeks old, and I´ve two due to hatch in the next couple of days, and 5 more due next week..... that´ll keep it dribbling on for a while!

Canada's here in NC. probably in Texas too. other than I think Snow geese come down into the lower 48 in winter but not here in the mountains.
Oh, I think snow geese are beautiful!
Based on pictures I see online they were Canada Geese but I don't know if they migrate this far south. I think there are migratory bird sanctuaries south of us close to the Gulf and we are not far from the Colorado river. I do wish we had enough water on our property to invite a overnighter though. I would just sit in my dining room and stare out at them all night.
I can imagine!
Canadas get everywhere, don´t they? There were loads in the parks when we were in England...pooping everywhere!

"whoops, what did you slip on?...oh, goose poop!"
They´d come and pinch kiddies´ icecreams, and sandwiches...
Isn´t it wonderful to get wildbirds into the property? Some worry about diseases, but that´s just an unavoidable risk, I suppose...
Here we get various egrets, wild ducks, Ibis, herons, and various water rails. I absolutely love it. So funny when a gret egret flies in, looking in the stream for a little fish or frog, and the 'hoodies' come along to see it off!!!!!

Five weeks?! I can't wait for next spring to hatch out my first babies! MS LYDIA!!!!!! My boyfriend and I are going to the flea market on Tuesday to look at and possibly buy a gander!

He sells african and chinese. Alright ladies time to figure out the sex! Pear is four months old and for a while she was a boy, and earlier someone said she was a girl. Now that she's almost fully grown, what do you think? She honks in the morning sometimes or when I tell her name, and chatters quite a bit.

To me, that has a gander head.
As for the chinese, the chinese and African ganders have a reputation for being quite aggressive (nothing from my experience, I don´t have them, it´s just I´ve read a lot of comments about them).
Just a thought, but why not get a female? It´s good company for Pear, and if Pear´s a boy it´s no problem to get a girl, but if Pear´s a boy and you get another male, then....
And if Pear´s a female, then another female will be great company. should you want to actually breed your own, then you can get a male later on, but also... you can wait until one of them goes broody, then get a few eggs for her to sit on...... Just my way of looking at it....

Female could work then! I've just always wanted my geese to have their own little babies but I guess if I buy eggs I can have whatever breed I want. Then I wouldn't have to worry about interbreeding! What if they don't go broody when I get the eggs?

I also thought about buying fake eggs for them and after the 35 day mark replace them with a couple goslings....

You wait for them to go broody, then get the eggs. You can keep them busy on fake eggs for the few days it takes for the real eggs to arrive.
Or you could also just get some goslings for them to adopt, most likely they would, especially if they´re broody on their fake/ceramic eggs. I use them quite a lot with my geese, ducks and chickens. Geese just love baby fluffy things, so that should also work.
