Greetings, my two year old barred Plymouth had a vent prolapse about a month ago. I gave her a daily epsom salt bath and gave her mineral oil up the vent and down the mouth for 10 days. I was able to push the internal part of the prolapse back in. There is still an external hemorrhoid looking part that I have not been successful in pushing back in. About a week into treatment, she developed vent gleet. I treated it with antifungal cream and it went away. I thought everything was in the clear. I put her in a pen next to the run to start reintroducing her to the flock. I kept her there for about a week. She started molting during this time. I noticed that she started getting crust around her bum again and so I brought her back in. She is very skinny but she is still eating and drinking food in the crate. What I am very concerned about is she is straining to poop. Her poop is a fairly regular consistency but bright green/light brown. She has not been free ranging much since the prolapse. It’s not extra greens. She is very uncomfortable when I try to look around her vent. I went ahead and put some antifungal cream on the crusty part. It felt like the vent was really small, hard, and not capable of opening up. I have posted a picture of her poop below. Any thoughts/suggestions/insights would be much appreciated. She’s a great chicken and plays a big role in my flock. It seems like I’m losing her slowly and I’m not sure what else to try.

A clear picture of her vent in good light would be helpful. The lighter poop looks like cecal poop, that is fermented in the cecum. The small amount of bright green poop looks like she is not eating enough food. What were the symptoms that made you think she had vent gleet?

Have you dewormed her recently? If you haven't I would deworm with Valbazen. It might be a long shot, but really heavy worm loads can do a lot of damage to the intestines including creating blockages, which might cause the straining and prolapse. It would also explain why she is skinny.

This is Max, my 2 year old beautiful boy. It has been hard weather and their pen needs weekly cleaning. However we did not clean the ducks for some time but allowed them access to the ponds. He seemed very dirty so yesterday I brough him in to give him a proper wash. I noticed some poo stuck to his bottom. When I managed to water clean it I noticed something hanging out. It was pink after washing and now it become brown after being on the floor. What shall I do? He seems well, eating and pooing as normal. There are no duck vets around here. I am thinking in keeping him in and clean. Buy some salts and oils. Doing research now and hope that it will retract? But I am not 100% sure this is what will happen and do not want to risk loosing Max.I need help. xAndrea

You mention that the tissue was pink after washing it? Do you have photos of the tissue?
I'd say that it may be a prolapsed Phallus. I don't have Ducks, but you may want to check out the threads below. I'll tag in some Duck Folks as well.
