I have a hen that is going through prolapse I have been using preparation H as I was told to do and yes I do believe it helped. Everything was fine for a couple of days and she prolapsed once again I was able to get it all back in when it came out I then was told to put her in darkness for a few days to change her egg laying pattern so I did and that seem to of worked as well. I then put her back with the other birds and for three days everything was going well then she prolapsed again and again I was able to get it back in I want to know I have tried everything to help my chicken before I have to put her down does anybody have any other suggestions that may help. Thank you for your time.

Sorry you are facing this... :(

I think euthanasia is the correct choice.

But I saw a someone use a prolapse sling, with space for the poo to come out... to support the vent staying there longer term to heal. :fl

Do you mind sharing age and breed?

Prolapse can be frustrating, and it can recur. Keep the prolapse tissue mist with oil or honey, and instead of the Prep. H, use some hydrocortisone cream. They tend to pop out with straining whether passing droppings or eggs. She might need to spend some time in a dog crate inside the coop where she can be around the others, but not be pecked. Vent damage from pecking can lead to cannibalism and death.

There are hormone implants that vents can use to stop her from laying for several months. It might help, too to stop her laying for a couple of weeks by keeping her in darkness for 16 out of every 24 hours for awhile until she stops laying. Here is some reading about prolapses:
