Prolapse vent maybe

Hello TerriL,
I can see your pics just fine!

Sorry you're having trouble with your turken.

I hope someone will be able to help you!

Crawfordmama Hi well that ended up being a prolapse. I couldnt tell until I used the Prep H on it and it went down. So at least I know what that is. I still dont know what or why she wont grow her feather back or walk much. She will take a few steps and the flap her wings to move.

Glad her prolapse is better!

Are you still using the same bag of food since the feathers aren't growing well? I am just wondering if perhaps there is something wrong with the food and it affected her more due to the stress of the prolapse. If so it wouldn't hurt to get a new bag just in case.

Did you get her droppings tested for parasites? If you cannot get it done locally perhaps a de-wormer that at least gets roundworms as they can do major damage. You need to use a mild de-wormer first for roundworms such as a piperazine product and then repeat it shortly after. Directions should be on the bottle.

Just thinking of common problems that can add to her being less than thrifty.

Chickerdoodle Since this started 4 months ago i have changed bags of food several times. I will look into the worming, that is definately and idea also. The Chicken Doctor suggested 2 teaspoons of hamburger daily to incease her protene and I am getting some additive for her food that he is sending me. I will let you know if anything works.

Thanks everyone for there ideas Terri

I have a hen that I believed to be a prolapse. She was just not doing well at all and I brought her inside. I don't know if it got better on it's own or if the combination of things that made her better. I gave her an antibiotic that I picked up at the feed store along with a soak in Epsom salts and used iodine on her bum. I'm on day 4 of antibiotics and she's doing much better and has since Monday. Without have a fecal sample tested I have no way of knowing what caused her vent to pop outside of her body, but on maybe Sunday I put her on top of the puppy crate I had her in to basically watch her vent. It was disgusting, but I wanted to see the process of her passing stool with her vent out like that and I'm glad I did because I saw what looked like the left side of her vent swollen and as it came out even more and I saw what looked like a pustule. It reminded me of a canker sore. Whatever it was could possibly have been the source of the swelling and prolapse. The Terramyacin may have cleared it up.

I wasnt sure if I should start a new Thread or not but I decided to go with the old one, hope thats OK.

Well my Turkin Hen is still not doing well. She eats and drinks, gains weight and does not like to be picked up.
She has never grown her feathers in since her molt maybe last year and looks as if she might have a prolapse.

What I find the strangest symptom is she will stand if made too but she will lay down as soon as possible. She almost never walks although if I make her she can for a few steps and then she lays down. She would rather flap her wings to move herself. This all started at about the same time (almost a year ago). I felt her legs and did not feel anything strange. She is not paralyzed at all. It must hurt to walk I guess I am not sure.

Any ideas??????????? Thanks Terri:cd
