I'm not sure but it appears that my runner duck might have a prolapsed uterus. I haven't closely inspected it yet, but when she left the coop I saw a massive and very bright red lump poking out from under her tail. It's really big and she keeps straining against it, but she's walking normally. It seems like she's quite uncomfortable. Does anyone know how to treat this?
I'm quite worried because it's so big and as a runner duck, she's quite thin.

This is serious. First, you need to isolate her immediately so the others don't hurt her. If you could then take a picture and post it. Until the pic is here, I recommend washing with lukewarm water and applying coconut oil. Do not put Preparation H on her, most birds die if that is used. Do you have unrefined coconut oil on hand?

I pushed the mass back in, the floppy part of the uterus refused to stay in. We were talking about other options and then I discovered she had managed to shove ALL her intestines out. We killed her quickly after discovering that, because we don't have vets around here who would be able to treat her and she was suffering.:hit

:hugs I'm so sorry.
