Prolapsed Vent, but chicken acting normal

Yes, it's the same amoxycillin your doctor prescribes if you have a strep throat. It just has a different label on it. This is what we all use here on BYC when we don't have access to a vet. I'm using it right now for a hen with a reproductive infection, and in just two days on it, she's nearly back to her bossy, trouble making self.

Thanks! I learned something new today.

Nice to know I am not the only one with the issue of finding a farm animal vet.

I should be getting the amoxycillin in the mail today. Is this something I should only be giving my sick chicken or can I add this pill to communal water?

Amoxicillin should be given orally right into the beak or in a very tiny bit of food. You don’t want to medicate others unnecessarily plus, giving it orally is the best way to know that she gets the correct dosage.
Ok, good to know. She is still eating well, so it should be easy to give to her.

Update: My chicken, Pepper, took the pill really well. I gave it to her in my hand with some scrambled eggs. She seems to be acting better. She was starting to look a little down before. Its been about 6 days with the pill. Still the same thing in the morning, but with a little poop (I think it hers). I do notice that she doesn't run with the others, but does walk fine. She has her tail cocked to one side most of the time, and her comb and wattle are drying up (at least before I gave her pills). I know to give her pills for 10 days. Should I be seeing some other improvement, or it might still be awhile?
