Prolapsed vent??? HELP!

She may need to regrow those feathers before they completely leave it alone. Certainly while there are scabs she is liable to get pecked. The problem with 'occasional pecks' is it only takes one to draw blood and that will cause a feeding frenzy. I would keep her separate as you are - a crate within the coop, until the scabs heal over. That shouldn't take too long at all.

Totally agree. That’s what I meant by “could get worse.” I should have been more clear. But I also think the pine tar would be worth a try, especiallly if OP can supervise a visit.

I will give the pine tar a try.

I’m out there with the birds at least 4-5 times a day 20-30 minutes at a time so I can do a little supervision to see if it’s working or not.

Is the pine tar safe to use around the vent area?

I would try it maybe just 1/2 inch from her vent. It has been used for a century to put on feather picked areas. Here is an article about it’s use:

THANK YOU SO MUCH! This worked wonders. I put it on her Saturday night right after you mentioned it (we ran to the local TSC instead of ordering) and it’s now Monday late night and we haven’t had any issues with pecking anymore! Her vent is all healed too, not even anymore scabs, it’s looking great.

I will definitely always keep a jar of this on hand. It’s a little stinky and messy but my girl is so happy to be back with the flock.

I put it on her Saturday night right after you mentioned it (we ran to the local TSC instead of ordering) and it’s now Monday late night and we haven’t had any issues with pecking anymore! Her vent is all healed too, not even anymore scabs, it’s looking great.

I will definitely always keep a jar of this on hand. It’s a little stinky and messy but my girl is so happy to be back with the flock.

Have you done anything yet such as cleaning her vent area, pushing the prolapse back inside and holding there until it stays, checking to make sure not trying to pass an egg, bathed her, given her anything, applied any creams or ointments?
Could you post pics to show the extent of the prolapse?
How long has she been prolapsing?
Is she laying/when did she last lay an egg?
Is she pooping ok and what does that look like?
Any open wounds around her vent?
Are her flockmates pecking the prolapse or is she seperated?

already done all of this... I have a thread already... The only thing I need help with now is would an airborne tablet work instead of Tums?
